Power Mirrors



Diagnosis & Testing
Mirror Motor
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the power mirror switch..
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the wire connector from the switch.
  8.  
  9. Use 2 jumper wires, one connected to a 12-volt battery source and the other connected to a good body ground.
    1. Test each of the connector ends according to the Mirror Motor Test Table that follows.
    2.  
    3. If the test results are not obtained as shown in the Mirror Motor Test Table, check for an open or shorted circuit. Replace the mirror assembly as necessary.
    4.  
    5. If the mirror motor tests good according the Mirror Motor Test Table, refer to the next section Power Mirrors, Diagnosis & Testing, Mirror Switch.

Mirror Switch
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the power mirror switch.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the switch.
  6.  
  7. Using an ohmmeter, test for continuity between the terminals of the switch.

  9. If the results shown in the following table are not obtained, replace the power mirror switch.

Removal & Installation
Motor
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the side view mirror cover.
  4.  
  5. Roll the door glass down.
  6.  
  7. Disengage the 2 clips attaching the speaker grille to the door trim panel. (They are at the front of the grille, one near the top, and the other one at the bottom).
  8.  
  9. Remove the 3 large washer-headed screws surrounding the speaker.

  11. Remove the access cover at the front of the door trim panel. Remove by prying at its rear edge.
  12.  
  13. Remove the red courtesy reflector from the lower tail of door. Disengage by prying at the screwdriver notch at the bottom of the reflector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the flag trim panel from the door by prying it off at the 2 attachment clip points.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 7 screws attaching the door trim panel to door:
    1. One screw is located at the lower rear screw pocket.
    2.  
    3. Three screws are located along the bottom of the door.
    4.  
    5. One screw is located inside the handle opening.
    6.  
    7. One screw is located at the upper front.
    8.  
    9. One screw is in the pull cup.
    10.

  19. Disengage the 2 hidden clips attaching the rear of the trim panel; pry them off at the 2 attachment clip points.
  20.  
  21. Lift the trim panel upward and away from the door, disengage the trim panel from the upper retainer channel.
  22.  
  23. Disengage the clip attaching the latch linkage to back door handle.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the electrical connectors as necessary, including the lower foot light, if equipped.
  26.  
  27. Remove the door trim panel from the door.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the power window mirror motor wire connector.
  30.  
  31. Disengage the wire harness grommet from the mirror flag.
  32.  
  33. Remove the nuts attaching the side view mirror to the mirror flag.
  34.  
  35. Remove the side view mirror and power mirror motor from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Feed the power mirror wire harness through the hole in the mirror flag and seat grommet. Do not pull on the wire harness to seat the grommet.
  2.  
  3. Position the side view mirror to the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the nuts attaching the side view mirror to the mirror flag.
  6.  
  7. Engage the push-in fastener attaching the power mirror wire connector to the inner door panel.
  8.  
  9. Engage the power mirror motor wire connector.
  10.  
  11. Position the door trim panel near the door.
  12.  
  13. Connect the electrical connectors as necessary, including the foot light, if so equipped.
  14.  
  15. Engage the clip attaching the latch linkage to the inside door handle.
  16.  
  17. Lift the door trim slightly to get the lock knob into its bezel opening on the panel.
  18.  
  19. Place the front portion of the upper trim strip flange into the retainer channel. Seat the white forward locator pin into the mating hole in the sheet metal at the front of door.
  20.  
  21. Drive the screw into the forward locator cup.
  22.  
  23. With the rear of panel slightly lifted, engage the remainder of the trim strip flange into the retainer channel, working from front to back, pressing down firmly.
  24.  
  25. Engage the 2 hidden clips attaching the rear of the door trim to their mating (green) grommet holes in the door.
  26.  
  27. Press the rear of the panel firmly in toward the door. Listen for engagement clicking sounds at BOTH of the clips.
  28.  
  29. Install the 7 screws attaching the door trim panel to the door:
    1. One screw is in the pull cup.
    2.  
    3. One screw is located inside the handle opening.
    4.  
    5. One screw is located at the upper front.
    6.  
    7. One screw is located at the lower rear screw pocket.
    8.  
    9. Three screws are located along the bottom of the door.
    10.

  31. Snap the screw covers closed.
  32.  
  33. Install the 3 large washer-headed screws surrounding the speaker.
  34.  
  35. Install the speaker grille by first engaging the rear edge hinge flaps to the mating slots, then pressing the grille on to seat the 2 clips at the front.
  36.  
  37. Install the red courtesy reflector by first engaging the rear edge hinge flaps to the mating slots, then snap the front into position.
  38.  
  39. Install the access cover at the front of the door trim panel. First engage the slots at the front, then snap them in at the rear edge.
  40.  
  41. Place the flag trim panel into position and engage the clips.
  42.  
  43. Install power side view mirror cover.
  44.  

Switch
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Using a trim stick, pry the trim bezel from the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the switch.
  8.  
  9. Remove the switch from the bezel.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the switch to the trim bezel.
  2.  
  3. Connect the wire harness connector to the switch.
  4.  
  5. Install the trim bezel to the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Connect the battery negative cable.
  8.
