Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

NOTE
Before servicing the vehicle, also refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise vehicle on jack stands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.
  2.  
  3. Remove the nuts and stabilizer bar attaching link assemblies from the front lower control arms.
  4.  
  5. When removing attaching link nut, keep stud from turning by installing an Allen wrench in the end of the stud.

  7. Remove the 4 bolts attaching the stabilizer bar bushing retainers to the front suspension crossmember and body. Then remove the stabilizer bar assembly from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position stabilizer bar and bushings as an assembly into front crossmember. Install the stabilizer bar bushing retainer to crossmember and body attaching bolts.
    1. Tighten the bushing retainer attaching bolts going to the body to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the attaching bolts going through the crossmember to: 120 ft. lbs. (163 Nm) (if applicable).

  3. Align stabilizer bar attaching link assemblies with attaching link mounting holes in the lower control arms.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer bar attaching links into both lower control arms. Install the attaching link to lower control arm retaining nuts.
  6.  
  7. Torque the stabilizer bar attaching link nuts to 77 ft. lbs. (105 Nm)

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the nuts and stabilizer bar attaching link assemblies from the front lower control arms.
  6.  
  7. When removing the attaching link nut, keep the stud from turning by installing an Allen wrench in the end of the stud.

  9. Remove the 4 bolts attaching the stabilizer bar bushing retainers to the front suspension crossmember and the body.
  10.  
  11. Remove the stabilizer bar assembly from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Position the stabilizer bar and the bushings as an assembly into the front crossmember. Install the stabilizer bar bushing retainer to the crossmember and the body attaching bolts.
    1. Tighten the bushing retainer attaching bolts going to the body to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Tighten the attaching bolts going through the crossmember to 120 ft. lbs. (163 Nm).

  3. Align the stabilizer bar attaching link assemblies with the attaching link mounting holes in the lower control arms.
  4.  
  5. Install the stabilizer bar attaching links into both lower control arms.
  6.  
  7. Install the attaching link to the lower control arm retaining nuts.
  8.  
  9. Torque the stabilizer bar attaching link nuts to 77 ft. lbs. (105 Nm).

2.0L & 2.5L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise vehicle on jack stands
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    When removing attaching link nut, keep stud from turning by installing a hex wrench in the end of the stud.

    4 bolts attaching the stabilizer bar bushing retainers to the front suspension crossmember and body

To install:

Inspect for broken or distorted stabilizer bar bushings, clamps and attaching links. Replace stabilizer bushings and/or end links as necessary.

  1. Position stabilizer bar and bushings as an assembly into front crossmember.
  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer bar bushing retainer to crossmember and body attaching bolts
  4.  
  5. Tighten the retainer bolts going through the crossmember to 120 ft. lbs. (163 Nm.)
  6.  
  7. Tighten the retainer bolts going to the body to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm)
  8.  
  9. Align stabilizer bar attaching link assemblies with attaching link mounting holes in the lower control arms.
  10.  
  11. Install stabilizer bar attaching links into both lower control arms.
  12.  
  13. Install the attaching link to lower control arm retaining nuts.
  14.  
  15. Torque the stabilizer bar attaching link nuts to 78 ft. lbs. (105 Nm)
  16.  

2.4L & 3.0L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from remote negative terminal on shock tower and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    To remove the stabilizer bar it is necessary to turn the steering wheel all the way to the right to remove the left end of the stabilizer bar.

The stabilizer bar brackets are marked "L" for left and "R" for right.
