Door Lock Motor

The power lock system allows all doors to be locked or unlocked electrically by operating the switch on either front door trim panel. The power lock system operates on non-switched battery current supplied through a fuse in the junction block so that the system remains functional, regardless of the ignition switch position.

The system includes an automatic door locking feature actuated by the Body Control Module (BCM). The vehicle is built with the system enabled. The system can be enabled/disabled. Refer to the owner's manual for more information.

The BCM will automatically lock all doors when all of the conditions below are met:

All doors are closed

The vehicle speed exceeds 15 mph (plus or minus 1 mph)

The throttle position sensor tip-in is greater than 10° (plus or minus 2°)

When the system is disabled, the door locks will work by use of the door lock switches only. When the system is enabled the automatic door locks will work automatically.

Auto unlock on exit is a feature which, when enabled, automatically unlocks all doors upon the ignition switch being turned off and the opening of the driver's door. Auto unlock on exit is only operable when the automatic door locks are enabled.

The door lock inhibit feature is designed to prevent the locking of keys in a vehicle. The driver-s door cannot be locked unless the keys are removed from the ignition switch.

The system also allows the locking and unlocking of vehicle door(s), deck lid release, and panic by remote control using a hand held radio frequency transmitter. The vehicle must be in PARK before the trunk lid can be unlatched with the transmitter. The receiver may receive signals from up to 4 transmitters. Each transmitter has its own code, and the code is programmed and stored into receiver memory. If a transmitter is replaced or additional transmitters are added, the codes for all units must be programmed into the receiver memory. If a receiver module is replaced, the transmitter codes must be stored in the new receiver memory.

  1. Make certain the battery is in normal condition before circuits are tested.
  2.
  3. To determine which motor is faulty, check each individual door for proper operation of the lock/unlock feature.
  4.
  5. If one or more locks are not functioning, disconnect the motor connectors one at a time, while operating the door lock switch.
    1. In the event that none of the motors work, the problem may be caused by a shorted motor, a bad switch, or a bad relay.
    2.
    3. Disconnecting a defective motor will allow the others to work.
    4.

  6.
  7. To test an individual door lock motor, disconnect the electrical connector from the motor.
    1. To lock the door, connect a 12 volt power source to the positive pin of the lock motor and a ground wire to the other pin.
    2.
    3. To unlock the door, reverse the wire connections at the motor pin terminals.
    4.
    5. If these results are NOT obtained, replace the motor.
    6.

  8.
  9. The door lock motor is integral to the door latch. If the door lock motor is faulty, the entire door latch must be replaced.
  10.

Door Lock Switch
  1. The following wiring test sequence determines whether or not voltage is continuous through the body harness to the switch.
    1. Remove the switch from the door trim panel.
    2.
    3. Carefully separate the multiple terminal block on the wiring harness from the switch body.
    4.
    5. Connect one lead of a test light to a ground terminal:

Touch the other test light lead to a battery feed terminal

If the test light comes on, the wiring circuit between the battery and the switch is functional

If test light does not come on, check fuse 13 in the Junction Block for a blown fuse.

    6.

  2.
  3. To check for continuity of the power door lock switch, remove the switch from its mounting location.
  4.
  5. Connect an ohmmeter and check for continuity between pins 1 and 4:
    1. Lock position: 2,700 ohms (plus or minus 10 percent).
    2.
    3. Unlock position: 620 ohms (plus or minus 10 percent).
