Automatic Transaxle



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheels
     
    Underbody splash shields
     
    Brake caliper and wire aside
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Axle shaft nut
     
    Lower ball joint nut
     
    Separate steering knuckle from ball joint
     
    Tie rod nut
     
    Separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle
     

  4.  
  5. Push the drive axle away from the wheel hub
  6.  
  7. Separate the axle from the transaxle and remove the axle.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Clean the axle hub seal and the transaxle seal.
  2.  
  3. Install the drive axle into the transaxle.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel hub onto the axle shaft.
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Steering knuckle to lower ball joint
     
    Tie rod to steering knuckle. Tighten tie rod nut to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
     
    Lower ball joint nut. Tighten nut to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     

  8.  
  9. Loosely install a new axle shaft nut.
  10.  
  11. Install the brake rotor and caliper.
  12.  
  13. Install the road wheels and tighten the lug nuts snug.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the lug nuts to 88 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Tighten the axle shaft nut to 221 ft. lbs. (300 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the underbody splash shields.
  20.  
  21. Check the transaxle fluid level and add as needed.
  22.
