Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely on jack stands.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the right wheel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the right side splash shield.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the catalytic converter lower flange nuts and nuts that secure the front exhaust pipe. Then remove the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter as a unit.

  15. Remove the lower crossmember bracket, if necessary.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oil pan-to-transaxle case bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the oil pan-to-engine block bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the oil pan.

To install:

  1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
  2.  
  3. Coat the oil pan gasket with sealant.
    NOTE
    Install the oil pan within 5 minutes of applying the sealant material.

  5. Install the oil pan and tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pan-to-transaxle case bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the oil pan-to-engine block bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Connect the exhaust pipe and catalytic converter. Tighten the nuts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Tighten the front muffler nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the oxygen sensor connector.
  14.  
  15. Install the splash shield and wheel.
  16.  
  17. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.
  20.  
  21. Start the engine and check for leaks.
