Power Mirrors

Diagnosis & Testing

Check outside power mirror switch as follows:

  1. Ignition OFF , disconnect the harness connector at the power mirror switch of the outside rearview mirror.
  2.
  3. Test for infinite resistance between each signal terminal and the voltage supply terminal with the switch in the open position.
  4.
  5. If less than infinite resistance, replace the power mirror switch.
  6.
  7. Test for less than 2 ohms of resistance between each signal terminal and the voltage supply terminal with the switch in the closed position.
  8.
  9. If greater than 2 ohms, replace the power mirror switch.
  10.

Check the outside power mirror motor as follows:

  1. Ignition OFF , disconnect the harness connector at the outside rearview mirror.
  2.
  3. Test for 25-95 ohms of resistance between the control terminal and the ground supply terminal of the individual left or right mirror motor.
  4.
  5. If the resistance is not within the specified range, replace the appropriate mirror assembly.
  6.

Removal & Installation
  1. Remove the front door trim panel.
  2.
  3. Remove the nuts from the outside rearview mirror.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the outside rearview mirror.
  6.
  7. Remove the outside rearview mirror from the front door.
  8.

To install:

  1. Install the outside rearview mirror to the front door.
    NOTE
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2.
  3. Install the outside rearview mirror nuts and tighten the nuts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.
  5. Connect the electrical connector to the outside rearview mirror.
  6.
  7. Install the front door trim panel.
  8.

Motor
  1. Remove the front door trim panel.
  2.
  3. Remove the mirror face:

Place your fingers as far as possible behind the mirror face toward the center of the back.

Remove the mirror face from the mirror housing with sufficient force to disengage the snap-locks on the mirror motor.

Remove the mirror face from the mirror housing.

Disconnect the heated mirror electrical connectors if equipped.

  4.
  5. Remove the mirror motor screws.
  6.
  7. Pull the mirror motor out from the mirror housing to gain access to the mirror motor electrical connectors.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the mirror motor electrical connectors.
  10.
  11. Remove the mirror motor from the mirror housing.
  12.

To install:

  1. Position the mirror motor to the mirror housing.
  2.
  3. Connect the mirror motor electrical connectors.
  4.
  5. Position the mirror motor into the mirror housing.

  6.
  7. Install the mirror motor screws and tighten the screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.
  9. Install the mirror face:

Connect the heated mirror electrical connectors if equipped.

Position the mirror face to the mirror motor.

Install the mirror face to the mirror motor with the palm of the hand on the center of the glass, pressing in until fully seated.

Inspect the mirror for proper operation.

  10.
  11. Install the front door trim panel.
  12.
  13. Inspect the mirror for proper operation.
  14.
