3.4L & 3.5L Engines



  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drive belt guard.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump pulley.
  12.  
  13. Remove the water pump bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the water pump.
  16.  
  17. Remove and discard the water pump gasket.
  18.  
  19. Clean the water pump mating surfaces.

To install:

  1. Install a NEW water pump gasket onto the water pump.
  2.  
  3. Install the water pump.
    NOTE
    Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the water pump bolts and tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the water pump pulley.
  8.  
  9. Install the water pump pulley bolts until snug.
  10.  
  11. Install the drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 18 lb ft. (25 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the drive belt guard.
  16.  
  17. Fill the cooling system.
  18.  

3.4L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the coolant from the engine.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Serpentine drive belt guard
     
    Loosen the water pump pulley bolts
     
    Serpentine drive belt
     
    Water pump pulley
     
    Water pump
     
    Water pump gasket

To install:

  1. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Gasket
     
    Water pump. Torque the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
     
    Water pump pulley and hand-tighten the bolts at this time
     
    Serpentine drive belt
     
    Water pump pulley bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
     
    Serpentine drive belt guard
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
  8.  
  9. Road test the vehicle and verify there is no air in the cooling system.
  10.  

3.6L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Install the EN 46104 onto the water pump pulley.

  5. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the water pump pulley.
  8.  
  9. Remove the water pump bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump from the front cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the water pump gasket.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Ensure that the engine front cover and water pump are clear of old gasket material.
  2.  
  3. Place a new water pump gasket on the water pump.
  4.  
  5. Place the water pump in position on the front cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the water pump bolts. Tighten the water pump bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the water pump pulley.
  10.  
  11. Loosely install the water pump pulley bolts.
  12.  
  13. Install the EN 46104 onto the water pump pulley. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  14.  

  1. Drain the cooling system until the coolant is below the water pump.
  2.  
  3. Remove the accessory drive belt from the water pump.
  4.  
  5. Use the EN 46104 tool in order to retain the water pump pulley.

  7. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and the water pump pulley.
  8.  
  9. Remove the water pump bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump.
  12.  
  13. Remove and discard the water pump gasket.
  14.  
  15. Clean the water pump sealing surfaces.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the NEW water pump gasket.
  2.  
  3. Install the water pump.
    NOTE

  5. Install and tighten the water pump bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

  7. Install the water pump pulley.
  8.  
  9. Use the EN 46104 tool in order to retain the water pump pulley.
  10.  
  11. Install and tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the accessory drive belt.
  14.  
  15. Fill the cooling system.
  16.
