REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



E30 3 Series
  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF .
  2.  
  3. Turn the screws 90 degrees and remove the lower dashboard trim. Remove the mounting nuts for the lower instrument panel trim from behind the panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 4 screws from the bottom of the instrument cluster, noting the lengths and positions for installation. Remove the upper 4 screws. Pull the instrument panel forward.
  6.  
  7. Pull the sliding lock out on the combination plug and remove the plug. Remove the other electrical connections and remove the cluster.
  8.  
  9. Connect the plugs and install the cluster. Replace the screws in the original positions. Install the trim panels.
  10.  

E36 3 Series

The instrument cluster will need to be recoded after it has been removed. A BMW dealer or qualified shop will be able to perform this function. Check on the availability of this service before disconnecting the instrument cluster.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF .
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel and the instrument cluster mounting screws.
  4.  
  5. Protect the top of the steering column and tilt the instrument cluster down. Pull the cluster out.
  6.  
  7. Push the levers forward to disconnect the plugs. Remove the instrument cluster.
  8.  
  9. With the levers out, connect the plugs and lock into place. Install the instrument cluster and the steering wheel.

E34 5 Series
  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF .
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel and the instrument cluster mounting screws.
  4.  
  5. Protect the top of the steering column and tilt the instrument cluster down. Pull the cluster out.
  6.  
  7. Push the levers forward to disconnect the plugs. Remove the instrument cluster.
  8.  
  9. With the levers out, connect the plugs and lock into place. Install the instrument cluster and the steering wheel.
