Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Release the pressure from the reservoir.
  2.  
  3. Remove the power steering belt. For details refer to Section 1.
  4.  
  5. Place a drain pan under the reservoir and the pump.
  6.  
  7. Siphon the hydraulic fluid from the pump reservoir. Disconnect and plug the hydraulic lines.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect and plug the hydraulic lines. Remove the bolts and loosen the nuts to turn the adjusting pinion.
  10.  
  11. Remove the drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolts from the brackets holding the pump and remove the pump assembly.

To install:

  1. Installation is in reverse order of removal. If equipped, tighten the adjusting pinion to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. If equipped with a tandem pump, the removal and installation procedure is the same.
  4.  
  5. Bleed the power steering system.
  6.  


NOTE
If the vehicle is equipped with a tandem pump, the removal and installation procedure is the same.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Release the pressure from the reservoir.
  2.  
  3. Draw the hydraulic fluid from the pump reservoir. Disconnect and plug the hydraulic lines.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the hydraulic lines. Remove the bolts and loosen the nuts to turn the adjusting pinion.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts from the brackets holding the pump and remove the pump assembly.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Situate the pump in position, then install the retaining bolts.
  2.  
  3. Install the drive belt.
  4.  
  5. The balance of installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the adjusting pinion to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine and inspect the power steering system for correct operation and for fluid leaks.
