REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front
EARLY CHROME STYLE
  1. Disconnect any fog light wires, if equipped.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the left and right bumper-to-body mounting bolts.
  4.  
  5. If equipped with the rubber bumper-to-fender trim piece, loosen and remove the retaining nut from inside the fender.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bumper bolts and remove the bumper by pulling it forward.
  8.  
  9. Install the bumper in reverse order, tighten the mounting bolts to 26 ft. lbs. (34 Nm)
  10.  

3 SERIES MODELS
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten any fog light harnesses if equipped.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wiring from the turn signals, if install into the bumper assembly
  6.  
  7. If removing the bumper from an M3, unscrew the splash shield.
  8.  
  9. If equipped with the rubber or plastic bumper-to-fender trim piece, loosen and remove the retaining nut from inside the fender.
  10.  
  11. Remove the covers to access the bumper shock-to-bumper mounting bolts. On some models, like the M3, the mounting hardware is a nut instead of a bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the mounting hardware.
  14.  
  15. Slide the bumper away from the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Install in reverse order. Torque to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).
  18.  

5, 6 AND 7 SERIES MODELS

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unfasten any fog light harnesses, if equipped.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wiring from the turn signals, if installed in the bumper assembly
  6.  
  7. Remove the rubber bumper guards from both sides of the bumper by unfastening the bolts from behind the strips.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten any retaining hardware secure the side rubber or plastic trim panels to the fenders. Look carefully, some of the bolts are very small.
  10.  
  11. Pull the bumper out slightly and disconnect the wires and headlight washer tubes, if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Install in reverse order. Adjust the bumper so the gap is even. Torque the bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).
  14.  

Rear
EARLY CHROME STYLE
  1. Loosen the left and right bumper-to-body mounting bolts.
  2.  
  3. If equipped with the rubber bumper-to-fender trim piece, loosen and remove the retaining nut from inside the trunk compartment. To access these nuts, some trunk trim panels may have to be removed.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bumper bolts and remove the bumper by pulling it forward.
  6.  
  7. Install the bumper in reverse order, tighten the mounting bolts to 22-26 ft. lbs. (29-34 Nm)
  8.  

3 SERIES MODELS

See Figures 3,4 and 5

  1. Remove the bumper mounting nut or bolts. Some hardware is accessed from inside the trunk, while other is access from under the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. If equipped with the rubber or plastic bumper-to-fender trim piece, loosen and remove the retaining nut from inside the fender.
  4.

  1. Remove any retaining hardware which may be securing the rubber or plastic trim panel to the side of the outside fender(s). Look carefully, many of these bolts are small.
  2.  
  3. Slide the bumper away from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install in reverse order. Torque to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).
  6.  

5, 6 AND 7 SERIES MODELS

  1. Remove the mounting bolts from inside the trunk compartment or under the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. If equipped with the rubber bumper-to-fender trim piece, loosen and remove the retaining nut from inside the trunk compartment. To access these nuts, some trunk trim panels may have to be removed.
  4.  
  5. Remove any retaining hardware which may be securing the rubber or plastic trim panel to the side of the outside fender(s). Look carefully, many of these bolts are small.
  6.  
  7. Slide the bumper out and away from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Install in reverse order. Torque the mounting bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).
  10.
