Power Seat Motor and Transmission

Power seat actually have more than one drive motor, most have 3. These motors are mounted on a separate base that is between the mounting base and the seat tracks. This is called the transmission. It is driven by cables from the motors. Therefore, the motors and transmission can be removed as an assembly.

Removal of the drive motor and transmission can be accomplished after the seat has been unfastened from the vehicle. (see the procedure for seat removal in this section). After the seat has been removed, place it upside down on a clean work surface. Remove the transmission assembly by removing the 4 mounting bolts. After the transmission is removed the individual motors can be removed by unbolting them and disconnecting their drive cables. Install the transmission back onto the seat and reinstall the whole assembly into the vehicle.
