Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



Front
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt (1).
    NOTE
    Remove the rotor to gain access to the wheel sensor mounting bolt.

  8.  
  9. Pull out the speed sensor (2), being careful to turn it as little as possible. Do not pull on the sensor harness.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the harness from its mount.

To install:

  1. Before installing the sensor, be certain there are no foreign materials, like iron fragments adhering to:

    The pick-up part of the sensor
     
    The inside of the sensor mounting hole
     
    The rotor mounting surface.
     

  2.  
  3. Apply a thin coat of suitable grease (Staburags NBU 12/K) to the wheel sensor and mounting hole.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the sensor mounting bolt to 82 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  8.  

Rear
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt (1).
  8.  
  9. Pull out the sensor (2), being careful to turn it as little as possible. Do not pull on the sensor harness.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the harness from its mount.

To install:

  1. Inspect the sensor O-ring, replace as required.
  2.  
  3. Before installing the sensor, be certain there are no foreign materials, like iron fragments adhering to:

    The pick-up part of the sensor
     
    The inside of the sensor mounting hole
     
    The rotor mounting surface.
     

  4.  
  5. Apply a thin coat of suitable grease (Staburags NBU 12/K) to the wheel sensor and mounting hole.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the sensor mounting bolt to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  10.
