Hydraulic System Bleeding



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission underbody protection if necessary
     
    Microfilter housing
     
    Remove nuts fastening the clutch slave cylinder (pressure line remains connected)

  5. Fit special tool 21 5 030 on clutch slave cylinder (1).
  6.  
  7. Press piston rod (2) with aid of spindle completely into clutch slave cylinder.
  8.  
  9. Connect bleeder unit to brake fluid expansion tank.
  10.  
  11. Connect bleeder hose to bleed valve (1).

  13. Hold clutch slave cylinder in illustrated position with special tool 21 5 030.
  14.  
  15. Open bleeder valve (1).
    NOTE
    If bubble-free brake fluid emerges, retract piston rod (2) of clutch slave cylinder with aid of spindle a little and press in again. If no air bubbles escape, close bleeder valve (1), otherwise repeat procedure.


    CAUTION
    Do not under any circumstance remove special tool 21 5 030 from clutch slave cylinder when brake system is pressurized. Piston with push rod can burst out of clutch slave cylinder.

  17. Switch off bleeder unit or remove from brake fluid expansion tank.
  18.  
  19. Slowly retract piston rod (2) of clutch slave cylinder (1) with special tool 21 5 030.
  20.  
  21. Remove special tool 21 5 030 from clutch slave cylinder (1).
  22.  
  23. Fit clutch slave cylinder to transmission.
  24.  
  25. Replace self-locking nuts. Tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Fill the brake fluid level in expansion tank.
