Diagnosis & Testing

Check that the window switch control module and control module box connectors do not have damaged terminals or sockets. This may be the cause of a fault in the system.

The control modules have a built-in diagnostic system which continuously monitors internal functions as well as input and output signals. The power window system is a distributed system which stores Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in different control modules depending on where the fault occurred.

A Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored if a control module detects a fault in a connected component. If for some reason a fault disappears after the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) has been stored in a control module, information about the fault remains in the control module.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Check for any current or stored DTCs that are related to the power window system.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.
  7. Remove the window switch and door module.
  8.
  9. Inspect terminal for poor connections, loose wires, bent, broken, or corroded pins, and then verify that the connector is securely fastened.
  10.
  11. Replace faulty module if necessary.

CAUTION
Some vehicles are equipped with an air bag system. The system must be disarmed before performing service on, or around, system components, the steering column, instrument panel components, wiring and sensors. Failure to follow the safety precautions and the disarming procedure could result in accidental air bag deployment, possible injury and unnecessary system repairs.

WARNING
Some models are equipped with side airbags mounted on the door trim panel. Do not use sharp-edged tools to remove the door panel. There is a risk of damage to the airbag.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
