  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable

    Grounding strap to body

    Heat shield

    Reinforcement plate from undercarriage

    Front splash shield

    Front propeller shaft

    Exhaust hangar bracket

    3 transmission-to-engine lower bolts

  4.
  5. Support the transmission with special cradle, 23-3-130/1/2/3.

    Cable from transmission

    Crossmember

Driveshaft-to-transmission flange nuts and discard the nuts

Propeller shaft nuts (bend shaft downward at center bearing)

Propeller shaft from transmission output flange and tie aside

  6.
  7. Slightly lower the transmission, slowly releasing tension on the clutch slave cylinder.
  8.
  9. Remove the nuts and remove the clutch slave cylinder, leaving pressure lines connected.
  10.
  11. Detach the reverse light switch connector and the wiring cables.
  12.
  13. Detach servomotor electrical connectors.
  14.
  15. Support the engine with a proper jack.
  16.
  17. Disconnect the gear selector rod from the joint. Pry off the spring from the bearing pin.
    CAUTION
Be sure the transmission does not put any weight on the input shafts or clutch plate will be distorted.

  18.
  19. Remove the transmission housing bolts and pull the transmission toward the rear as far as possible, turn it about 10° counterclockwise and remove from the vehicle.
