Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    If the centering pin missing, mark the position of studs in relation to wheel arch.



    Negative battery cable
     
    Wheel
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Stabilizer link from spring/strut
     
    Tie rod end from swivel bearing
     
    Line for pulse generator from spring/strut
     
    If necessary, brake pad wear sensor
     
    Swivel bearing from spring/strut, set aside and secure

  5. Secure spring so that it doesn-t fall out. Remove mounting nuts. Remove shock absorber downwards out of wheel arch.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Installation is reverse of removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Replace all bolts and self-locking nuts
  4.  
  5. Tighten all following fasteners to correct torque specifications:

    Spring/strut support: 25 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
     
    Shock absorber piston rod on thrust bearing: 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Spring strut shock absorber to pivot mount: 73 ft. lbs. (100 Nm)
     

  6.  

Testing & Inspection



  1. Check the rubber parts for damage or deterioration.
  2.  
  3. Check the spring for correct height, deformation, deterioration, or damage.
  4.  
  5. Check the shock absorber for abnormal resistance or unusual sounds.
  6.  
  7. Check for oil seepage around seals.
  8.  
  9. Replace as needed.
  10.
