Spark Plugs

Inspection



  1. Check spark plugs for the following:
    1. Broken insulator
    2.  
    3. Worn electrode
    4.  
    5. Carbon deposits
    6.  
    7. Damaged or broken gasket
    8.  
    9. Condition of the porcelain insulator at the tip of the spark plug
    10.  

  2.  
  3. Replace as necessary
  4.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Pack removal and installation.
  4.  
  5. Remove spark plug connector from the spark plug.
  6.  
  7. Clean loose debris away from area of spark plug to keep contaminants from entering engine when spark plug is removed.
  8.  
  9. Remove the spark plug using a spark plug socket and wrench.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Be sure the spark plug gap is set to 0.028 in. (0.712mm).
  2.  
  3. Carefully install the spark plug and tighten to 21-24 ft. lbs. (29-33 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Pack removal and installation.
