Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Control arm and tie it back to prevent damage to the ball joint
     
    Control arm bushing by installing special tools 31-1-051, 052, 33-3-051, 052, 054 and 310
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm bushing by installing special tools 31-1-051, 052, 33-3-051, 052, 054 and 310
     
    Control arm
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Control arm and tie it back to prevent damage to the ball joint
     
    Control arm bushing by installing special tools 31-1-051, 052, 33-3-051, 052, 054 and 310
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm bushing by installing special tools 31-1-051, 052, 33-3-051, 052, 054 and 310
     
    Control arm
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Front wheel
     
    Control arm from the front axle support and loosen the nut from the control arm to swivel bearing
     
    Control arm from the swivel bearing by pressing it off with special tool 31-2-240
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm to the swivel bearing. Torque the nut to 58 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Lower control arm to the front axle support. Torque the nut to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) plus an additional 90 degrees.
     
    Front wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Check and adjust the front end alignment as needed.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.

  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Front wheel
     
    Control arm from the front axle support and loosen the nut from the control arm to swivel bearing
     
    Control arm from the swivel bearing by pressing it off with special tool 31-2-240
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm to the swivel bearing. Torque the nut to 58 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Lower control arm to the front axle support. Torque the nut to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) plus an additional 90 degrees.
     
    Front wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Check and adjust the front end alignment as needed.

    Negative battery cable
     
    Front wheel
     
    Control arm from the front axle support and loosen the nut from the control arm to swivel bearing
     
    Control arm from the swivel bearing by pressing it off with special tool 31-2-240

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm to the swivel bearing. Torque the nut to 58 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Lower control arm to the front axle support. Torque the nut to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm) plus an additional 90 degrees.
     
    Front wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Check and adjust the front end alignment as needed.
