Fuel Pump

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the fuel tank.
  4.  
  5. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Rear seat bench
     
    Rubber plug above the sender unit and fold the rubber mat back
     
    Metal cover
     
    Fuel gauge level sending unit electrical connector
     
    Fuel lines
     
    Rotary connection with special tool 16-1-020
     

  8.  
  9. Raise the fuel level sensor and expose the spiral hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fuel level sensor and fuel pump from the tank.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE
Always use a new seal or gasket when installing the fuel pump or fuel level gauge sending unit assembly.

  1. Install the fuel pump into the fuel tank, taking care not to bend or damage the fuel sending unit assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install a new seal and torque the sealing ring using tool No. 16-1-020 as follows:
    1. Metal sealing rings: 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Plastic sealing rings: 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
    4.  

  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel lines
     
    Fuel gauge level sending unit electrical connector
     
    Metal cover
     
    Rubber plug above the sender unit
     
    Rear seat bench
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.

  3. Drain the fuel tank.
  4.  
  5. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Rear seat bench
     
    Rubber plug above the sender unit and fold the rubber mat back
     
    Metal cover
     
    Fuel gauge level sending unit electrical connector
     
    Fuel lines
     
    Rotary connection with special tool 16-1-020
     

  8.  
  9. Raise the fuel level sensor and expose the spiral hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fuel level sensor and fuel pump from the tank.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE
Always use a new seal or gasket when installing the fuel pump or fuel level gauge sending unit assembly.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel pump into the fuel tank taking care not to bend or damage the fuel sending unit assembly
     
    New seal and torque the sealing ring using tool No. 16-1-020 as follows:
     

    1. Metal sealing rings: 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Plastic sealing rings: 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).

  3. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel lines
     
    Fuel gauge level sending unit electrical connector
     
    Metal cover
     
    Rubber plug above the sender unit
     
    Rear seat bench
     
    Negative battery cable

  5. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
  6.

  8.  
  9. Raise the fuel level sensor and expose the spiral hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fuel level sensor and fuel pump from the tank.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE

  1. Install the fuel pump into the fuel tank, taking care not to bend or damage the fuel sending unit assembly.

  7. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
