Upper Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Tire
     
    Electronic Leveling Control (ELC) air tube
     

  4.  
  5. Support the control arm. Use support bracket tool J-23028-01 mounted on a jack to support the rear lower control arm

    Two lower shock bolts
     
    Trunk trim
     
    Cover, 2 nuts and the reinforcement from the top of the shock
     
    Cotter pin and hex nut on control arm
     

  6.  
  7. Separate the adjustment link from the knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Slowly lower the control arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the spring with the lower insulator.
  12.  

To install

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Coil spring with insulator
     
    Lower shock bolts. Torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
     
    Adjustment link. Torque the nut to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm) 36 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Tighten an additional ½ turn to align the cotter pin.
     
    ELC air tube
     
    Tire. Torque the lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
     

  2.  

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear suspension support assembly
     
    Electronic Ride Control height sensor
     
    Tie rod
     
    Stabilizer link assembly from the control arm
     
    Antilock Brake System (ABS) electrical connector
     
    Hub and bearing
     
    Lower control arm
     
    Adjustment link from the control arm, if necessary
     
    Nuts and bolts and the control arm
     

  2.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Tighten the control arm nuts with the vehicle unsupported and resting on the wheels at the normal trim height.



    Lower control arm to the frame.
     



    Bolts and the nuts
     
    Hub and bearing
     
    Adjustment link to the control arm, if necessary. tighten the nut to 36 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    ABS electrical connector
     
    Tie rod
     
    Stabilizer link assembly to the control arm
     
    Height sensor
     
    Rear wheel
     

  2.  
  3. Lower the vehicle and tighten the control arm nuts to 78 ft. lbs. (106 Nm).
  4.
