2.0L Engines



  1. The engine coolant temperature sensor threads into the rear of the cylinder head.
  2.  
  3. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect battery negative cable from remote negative terminal on shock tower and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
    WARNING
    Perform this operation only when the engine is cold.

  6.  
  7. Drain coolant until level drops below sensor level.
  8.  
  9. Coolant sensor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove coolant sensor.

To install:

  1. Apply 3M® AAD part number 8731 or equivalent conductive sealant to threaded portion.
    NOTE
    It is imperative to use a conductive sealant.

  2.  
  3. Install coolant sensor and torque to 60 inch lbs. (7Nm)
  4.  
  5. Attach electrical connector to sensor.
  6.  
  7. Fill cooling system.
  8.  

2.4L Engine



The engine coolant temperature sensor threads into the front of the cylinder head.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from remote negative terminal on shock tower and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
    WARNING
    Perform this operation only when the engine is cold.

  4.  
  5. With the engine cold, drain coolant until level drops below sensor level.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect coolant sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove coolant sensor.

To install:

  1. Apply 3M® AAD part number 8731 or equivalent conductive sealant to threaded portion.
    NOTE
    It is imperative to use a conductive sealant.

  2.  
  3. Install coolant sensor and torque to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm)
  4.  
  5. Attach electrical connector to sensor.
  6.  
  7. Fill cooling system.
  8.  

2.5L & 3.0L Engines



The engine coolant temperature sensor is located next to the fill neck.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from remote negative terminal on shock tower and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
    WARNING
    Perform this operation only when the engine is cold.

  4.  
  5. Disconnect coolant sensor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove coolant sensor.
