  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  


NOTE
In order to remove the proportioning valve caps, it may be necessary to remove the reservoir assembly from the master cylinder.

  1. Remove the proportioning valve cap assemblies.
  2.  
  3. Remove and discard the O-rings.
  4.  
  5. Remove the springs.
  6.  
  7. Using needle-nosed pliers, remove the proportioning valve pistons. Be very careful not to scratch or damage the piston stems.
  8.  
  9. Remove the proportioning valve seals from the pistons.
  10.  
  11. Inspect the pistons for corrosion or other damage, and replace, if necessary.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Lubricate new O-rings and proportioning valve seals with the silicone grease supplied in the repair kit. Also lubricate the stem of the proportioning valve pistons.
  2.  
  3. Place the new seals on the proportioning valve pistons with the seal lips facing upward toward the cap assembly.
  4.  
  5. Position the proportioning valve pistons and seals into the master cylinder body.
  6.  
  7. Install the springs in the master cylinder body.
  8.  
  9. Place new O-rings in the grooves in the proportioning valve cap assemblies.
  10.  
  11. Install the proportioning valve caps on the master cylinder body. Tighten the caps to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  12.  
  13. If removed, install the reservoir assembly to the master cylinder. Refill the system with fresh DOT 3 brake fluid from a sealed container.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
