Drum Brakes

  1. Adjust the rear brakes, as outlined earlier in this section.
  2.
  3. Apply the parking brake to 10 clicks, then release. Repeat 5 times.
  4.
  5. Make sure the parking brake is fully released. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The BRAKE warning lamp should be off. If the BRAKE warning light is still on, pull downward on the front parking brake to remove the slack from the pedal assembly.
  6.
  7. Raise and safely support the vehicle with safety stands.
  8.
  9. Adjust the parking brake by turning the nut on the equalizer while spinning both rear wheels. When either rear wheel develops drag, stop adjusting and back off the equalizer one full turn.
  10.
  11. Apply the parking brake to four clicks and check the rear wheel rotation. The wheel should not move when you attempt to rotate it, by hand, in a forward rotation. The wheel should drag or not move when attempting to rotate it in a rearward direction.
  12.
  13. Release the parking brake and check for free wheel rotation.
  14.
  15. Carefully lower the vehicle.
