Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor

Print

Operation

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

The accelerator pedal contains 2 individual Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensors within the assembly. The APP sensors 1 and 2 are potentiometer type sensors each with 3 circuits:

A 5-volt reference circuit

A low reference circuit

A signal circuit

The APP sensors are used to determine the pedal angle. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) provides each APP sensor with a 5-volt reference circuit and a low reference circuit. The APP sensors provide the PCM with signal voltage proportional to the pedal movement. The APP sensor 1 signal voltage at rest position is near the low reference and increases as the pedal is actuated. The APP sensor 2 signal voltage at rest position is near the 5-volt reference and decreases as the pedal is actuated.

Removal & Installation

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the accelerator pedal position sensor harness connector.
  4.
  5. Loosen the mounting nuts and remove the accelerator pedal assembly.
    WARNING
Do not disassemble the accelerator pedal assembly or attempt to remove the accelerator pedal position sensor from accelerator pedal assembly. Avoid impact from dropping the sensor during handling. Be careful to keep the accelerator pedal assembly away from water.

  6.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
  2.
  3. Tighten the mounting nuts to 113 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
  4.

Testing

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
Check for Temporary DTC-s or DTC-s with the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) before doing this procedure. If any DTC-s are indicated, troubleshoot them first, then do this procedure.

  2.
  3. Press the accelerator pedal several times to check its operation. If it does not operate smoothly, check the pedal. If you find a problem, replace the accelerator pedal module.
  4.
  5. Connect the HDS to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  6.
  7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  8.
  9. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it doesn't, troubleshoot the DLC circuit.
  10.
  11. Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed, then check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
    1. If it is 0 percent, the APP sensor is OK.
    2.
    3. If it is not 0 percent, update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then go to the next step.
    4.

  12.
  13. Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed, then check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
    1. If it is 0 percent, the APP sensor is OK.
    2.
    3. If it is still not at 0 percent, replace the accelerator pedal module and check its operation with the HDS.
    4.
