Camshaft Position Sensor

Print

Description & Operation

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is triggered by a notched reluctor wheel built onto the camshaft sprocket. The CMP sensor is connected to the PCM by the following circuits:

A 5-volt circuit

A low reference circuit

A signal circuit

The CMP sensor is a Hall-effect sensor and detects the camshaft position by using a Hall element. It is related with the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and detects the piston position of each cylinder which the CKP sensor can't detect. This sensor has a Hall-effect IC which changes in output voltage when a magnetic field is made on the IC with the current flow.

Testing

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Connect an Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) or equivalent scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  4.
  5. Check the CMP SENSOR in the DATA LIST.
  6.
  7. If voltage is not modulating in a square wave pattern and within specification, inspect the connectors and wiring harness.
  8.
  9. If no faults are found in the connectors or wiring harness, replace the sensor.
