The VSS assembly provides vehicle speed information to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the mounting bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor (A) and the sensor washer (B).
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the speed sensor (A) with a new O-ring (C) and washer (B) and tighten the mounting bolt to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm) into the transaxle housing.
  2.  
  3. Check the connector for rust, dirt, or oil, then connect the connector securely.
  4.  
  5. Install the air cleaner.

Testing



Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Connect the Honda Diagnostics System (HDS), or equivalent scan tool, to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  6.  
  7. Check the VSS SENSOR in the DATA LIST.
  8.  
  9. If voltage is not within specification, inspect the connectors and wiring harness.
  10.  
  11. If no faults are found, replace the sensor.
