Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

CAUTION
Engine coolant can spray out causing severe burns if the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is removed from a hot engine without allowing the engine to cool below 100°F (37°C) and draining the engine coolant into a sealable container first.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Allow the engine to cool below 100°F (37°C) before working on the cooling system.
  4.
  5. Note the anti-theft code and radio presets for the radio.
  6.
  7. Locate the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) gauge sending unit located near the thermostat housing on the engine.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  10.
  11. Detach the ECT gauge sending unit electrical connection.
  12.
  13. Drain the engine coolant into a sealable container.
  14.
  15. Remove the ECT gauge sending unit using a pressure switch socket or box-end wrench.
  16.

To install:

  1. Use a sensor safe liquid thread sealant to coat the threads before installation.
    NOTE
Using a tape type of sealant may electrically insulate the sensor not allowing the gauge to register.

  2.
  3. Install the new sensor and tighten to 84 inch lbs. (9 Nm) using a box-end wrench or sending unit pressure switch socket.
  4.
  5. Refill the engine with a 50/50 solution of water and Honda approved or an equivalent coolant.
  6.
  7. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.
  9. Enter the anti-theft code and radio presets for the radio.
  10.
  11. Start the engine, allow it to reach operating temperature, and check for leaks.
  12.
  13. Bleed the cooling system to remove air as necessary.
  14.
