NOTE
Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces. To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion. Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the hood support rod, then use it to prop the hood in the wide-open position.
  4.  
  5. Relieve the fuel pressure.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect and remove the battery.
  8.  
  9. Remove the air cleaner housing assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the harness clamp and the ground cable beneath the battery holder.
  12.  
  13. Remove the battery cables from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the harness connector and remove the harness clamp.
  16.  
  17. Remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) cover, then remove the 3 bolts securing the PCM.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the PCM connectors and the engine wire harness connector.
  20.  
  21. Remove the harness clamps then remove the PCM bracket.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the EVAP canister hose and brake booster vacuum hose.
  24.  
  25. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover, then disconnect the fuel feed hose.
  26.  
  27. Remove the drive belt.
  28.  
  29. Remove the Power Steering (P/S) pump without disconnecting the P/S hoses, then remove the P/S hose from the clamp.
  30.  
  31. Remove the radiator cap.
  32.  
  33. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  34.  
  35. Remove the front wheels.
  36.  
  37. Remove the splash shield.
  38.  
  39. Loosen the drain plug in the radiator and drain the engine coolant.
  40.  
  41. Drain the engine oil.
  42.  
  43. Drain the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).
  44.  
  45. Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector and the secondary heated oxygen sensor connector.
  46.  
  47. Remove the 3-way catalytic converter.
  48.  
  49. Remove the shift cable.
  50.  
  51. Separate the stabilizer links from the stabilizer bar.
  52.  
  53. Separate the knuckles from the lower arms.
  54.  
  55. Remove the driveshafts. Coat all precision-finished surfaces with clean engine oil. Tie plastic bags over the driveshaft ends.
  56.  
  57. Remove the propeller shaft.
  58.  
  59. Remove the bolt securing the P/S fluid line bracket, and unclamp the P/S fluid line clamps on the front subframe.
  60.  
  61. Remove the bolts securing the left steering gearbox mounting bracket.
  62.  
  63. Remove the bolts securing the right steering gearbox mounting brackets.
  64.  
  65. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector, then remove the A/C compressor without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively.
  66.  
  67. Lower the vehicle.
  68.  
  69. Remove the radiator.
  70.  
  71. Disconnect the ATF cooler hose, then plug the line and the hose.
  72.  
  73. Disconnect the heater hoses.
  74.  
  75. Install the front bulkhead.
  76.  
  77. Attach the engine hanger adapter (VSB02C000015) to the threaded hole in the cylinder head.

  79. Remove both lids (A) for the front strut flange nuts from the cowl cover. Position the engine hanger adapters (VSB02C000032) over the strut flange nuts.

  81. Carefully position the engine support hanger (AAR-T-1256) on the vehicle, and attach the hook (A) to the engine hanger adapter (VSB02C000015). Tighten the wing nut (B) by hand, and lift and support the engine.
    WARNING
    Be careful when working around the windshield as breakage is possible.

  83. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

  85. Remove the lower torque rod.

  87. Make the appropriate reference lines at both ends of the subframe that line up with the body.

  89. Remove the subframe mounting bolts on both sides.
  90.  
  91. Attach the front subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the subframe by looping the strap (A) over the front of the subframe, then secure the strap with the stop (B), then tighten the wing nut (C).
  92.  
  93. Raise the jack and line up the slots in the arms with the bolt holes on the corner of the jack base, then tighten the bolts.

  95. Remove the 6 bolts securing the front subframe and lower the subframe.

  103. Remove the ground cable, then remove the transaxle mount bracket.

  105. Install the transmission hanger bracket (P/N 21232-RCT-A00) (A) and the washer (B) on the transaxle.

  107. Install the universal lifting eyelet to the drive belt auto-tensioner.

  109. Attach a chain hoist (A) to the universal lifting eyelet (B), and the transmission hook (C). Lift up on the engine/transmission assembly until it's securely supported by the chain hoist, then remove the engine support hanger.

  111. Remove the side engine mount bracket mounting bolt and nut.

  113. Check that the engine/transaxle is completely free of vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, coolant hoses, and electrical wiring.
  114.  
  115. Slowly lower the engine/transaxle assembly about 6 inches (150mm). Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transaxle, then lower it all the way.
  116.  
  117. Disconnect the chain hoist from the engine/transaxle assembly.
  118.  
  119. Raise the vehicle, then remove the engine/transaxle assembly from under the vehicle.
  120.  

To install:

  1. Install the accessory brackets and tighten bolts to the specified torque, as illustrated.

  3. Raise the vehicle and position the engine/transaxle assembly under the vehicle. Lower the vehicle and attach the universal lifting eyelet (A) and transmission hook (B) to the chain hoist, then lift the engine into position.
    NOTE
    Reinstall the mounting bolts and support nuts in the sequence given in the following steps. Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration and reduce engine mount life.

  5. Attach the special tool adapter (VSB02C000015) to the threaded hole in the cylinder head.
  6.  
  7. Remove both lids (A) from the cowl cover. Position the engine hanger adapters (VSB02C000032) over the strut flange nuts.
  8.  
  9. Install the A and Reds engine support hanger (AAR-T1256), then attach the hook to the slotted hole in the hanger adapter. Tighten the wing nut by hand to lift and support the engine/transaxle assembly.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the upper torque rod mounting bolt.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the new side engine mount bracket mounting bolt and nut to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Remove the chain hoist.
  16.  
  17. Remove the universal lifting eyelet.
  18.  
  19. Remove the transmission hanger bracket (P/N 21232-RCT-A00) (A) and the washer (B).
  20.  
  21. Install the transaxle mount bracket and tighten to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install the ground cable and tighten to 86 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Install the transaxle mount, then tighten the transaxle mount stiffener mounting bolts (A) to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm) and the new transaxle mount mounting bolts (B) to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Tighten the new bolt and nuts (C) to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  28.  
  29. Raise the vehicle on the lift.

  31. Using the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) and a jack, raise the subframe up to the body.
  32.  
  33. Loosely install the 6 new 14 x 1.5mm bolts.
  34.  
  35. Align all reference marks on the front subframe with the body, then tighten the bolts on the front subframe to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
  36.  
  37. Tighten the new subframe mounting bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm) on both sides.
  38.  
  39. Install the lower torque rod, then tighten the new lower torque rod mounting bolts in the numbered sequence shown.

  41. Lower the vehicle.

  43. Remove the engine support hanger from the vehicle. Remove the adapter from the cylinder head.

  45. Tighten the upper torque rod mounting bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  46.  
  47. Raise the vehicle.
  48.  
  49. Install the A/C compressor, then connect the A/C compressor clutch connector. Tighten the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  50.  
  51. Install the bolts securing the left steering gearbox mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm).
  52.  
  53. Install the bolts securing the right steering gearbox mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (59 Nm).
  54.  
  55. Install the power steering fluid line bracket and secure the hose with the hose clamps.
  56.  
  57. Install the propeller shaft.
  58.  
  59. Install a new set ring on the end of each driveshaft, then install the driveshafts. Make sure each ring clicks into place in the differential and intermediate shaft.
  60.  
  61. Connect the lower arms to the knuckles.
  62.  
  63. Connect the stabilizer links to the stabilizer bar.
  64.  
  65. Install the shift cable.
  66.  
  67. Install the 3-way catalytic converter (A) using new gaskets (B) and new self-locking nuts (C).
  68.  
  69. Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector (D) and the secondary heated oxygen sensor connector (E).

  71. Install the splash shield.

  73. Lower the vehicle.

  75. Install the heater hoses.

  77. Install the radiator.

  79. Install the ATF cooler hose and secure the hoses with the clip.
  80.  
  81. Install the P/S pump, then install the P/S hose to the clamp. Tighten the mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

  83. Install the accessory drive belt.
  84.  
  85. Connect the fuel feed hose, then install the quick-connect fitting cover.
  86.  
  87. Install the EVAP canister hose and the brake booster vacuum hose.
  88.  
  89. Install the PCM bracket, then install the harness clamp. Tighten the bracket bolts to 86 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  90.  
  91. Connect the PCM connectors and the engine wire harness connector.
  92.  
  93. Install the harness clamps.
  94.  
  95. Install the PCM, then install the PCM cover.
  96.  
  97. Install the battery cables to the under-hood fuse/relay box.
  98.  
  99. Connect the harness connector, and install the harness clamp.
  100.  
  101. Install the ground cable and the harness clamp.
  102.  
  103. Install the air cleaner housing assembly.
  104.  
  105. Install the front wheels.
  106.  
  107. Install and connect the battery.
  108.  
  109. Refill the engine with the proper amount of recommended engine oil.
  110.  
  111. Refill the transaxle with the proper type and amount of ATF.
  112.  
  113. Move the shift lever to each gear and verify that the A/T gear position indicator follows the transaxle range switch.
  114.  
  115. Inspect for fuel leaks: Turn the ignition switch to ON (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation 3 times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.
  116.  
  117. Refill the radiator with the proper type of engine coolant and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
  118.  
  119. Perform the PCM reset procedure.
  120.  
  121. Inspect the idle speed.
  122.  
  123. Inspect the ignition timing.
  124.  
  125. Check the wheel alignment.
  126.  

PCM Idle Learn Procedure-With HDS

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Connect the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  4.  
  5. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM and other vehicle systems. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.
  6.  
  7. Select CRANK PATTERN in the ADJUSTMENT MENU with the HDS.
  8.  
  9. Select CRANK PATTERN LEARNING with the HDS and follow the screen prompts.
  10.  

PCM Idle Learn Procedure-Without HDS

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Start the engine.
  2.  
  3. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 RPM without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on.
  4.  
  5. Test-drive the vehicle on a level road: decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) from an engine speed of 2,500 RPM down to 1,000 RPM with the transaxle in 2 position.
  6.  
  7. Repeat step 3 several times.
  8.  
  9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait 30 seconds.
  12.  

PCM Reset Procedure

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Reset the PCM with the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) while the engine is stopped.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to ON and wait 30 seconds.
  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK and disconnect the HDS from the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  8.  
  9. Perform the PCM idle learn procedure.
  10.
