Intake Manifold

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the hood support rod, then use it to prop the hood in the wide-open position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bulkhead cover:
    1. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Take care not to scratch the front bumper and the body.
    2.  
    3. Remove the clips (A, B) by carefully pulling the front grille cover (C) up, then remove the cover by releasing the front edge of the cover from the grille (D).
    4.  
    5. To remove the clips, pry the inner clip up at the edge near the line (E) on its head.

  7. Disconnect the fan motor connectors and the hood switch connector, then remove the harness clips.
  8.  
  9. Remove the radiator upper brackets (A), then remove the front bulkhead (B).

  11. Remove the intake manifold cover.

  13. Disconnect the vacuum hose (A) and breather pipe (B), then remove the intake air duct (C).

  15. Remove the following engine wire harness connectors and wire harness clamps from the intake manifold:

    Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connector
     
    Throttle actuator connector

  17. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister hose and brake booster vacuum hose.
  18.  
  19. Remove the harness bracket mounting bolts.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the water bypass hoses, then plug the water bypass hoses.
  22.  
  23. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  24.  
  25. Remove the splash shield.
  26.  
  27. Remove the connector (A), then remove the intake manifold bracket (B).

  29. Lower the vehicle.

  31. Remove the intake manifold.
  32.  

To install:

  1. Install the intake manifold (A) with a new gasket (B), and tighten the bolts and nuts in a crisscross pattern in 3 steps, beginning with the inner bolt. Tighten the bolts and nuts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Install the intake manifold bracket (B), then install the connector (A). Tighten the bracket bolt and nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

  7. Install the splash shield.

  9. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Install the water bypass hoses.

  13. Install the EVAP canister hose and the brake booster vacuum hose.
  14.  
  15. Install the harness bracket mounting bolts.
  16.  
  17. Connect the engine wire harness connectors and install the wire harness clamps to the intake manifold including the:

    MAP sensor connector
     
    Throttle actuator connector

  19. Install the intake air duct, then install the vacuum hose and the breather pipe.
  20.  
  21. Install the intake manifold cover and tighten the nuts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install the front bulkhead, then install the radiator upper brackets. Tighten the bolts to 86 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Apply body paint to the bulkhead mounting bolts.
  26.  
  27. Connect the fan motor connectors and the hood switch connector, then install the harness clips.
  28.  
  29. Install the bulkhead cover.
  30.  
  31. Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
  32.  
  33. After installation, check that all tubes, hoses, and connectors are installed correctly.
  34.  
  35. Refill the radiator with the proper type and amount of engine coolant and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
