  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil pump housing.

  5. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor (A) and the outer rotor (B).
    1. If the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump.
    2.  
    3. Inner rotor-to-outer rotor radial clearance standard (new): 0.002-0.006 inch (0.06-0.16mm).
    4.  
    5. Service Limit: 0.008 inch (0.20mm).

  7. Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotor (A) and the pump housing (B).
    1. If the housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump.
    2.  
    3. Housing-to-rotor axial clearance Standard (New): 0.0014-0.0028 inch (0.035-0.070mm).
    4.  
    5. Service Limit: 0.005 inch (0.12mm).

  9. Check the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor (A) and the pump housing (B).
    1. If the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump.
    2.  
    3. Housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance standard (new): 0.006-0.008 inch (0.15-0.21mm).
    4.  
    5. Service Limit: 0.009 inch (0.23mm).

  11. Inspect both rotors and the pump housing for scoring or other damage. Replace parts if necessary.

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the crankshaft pulley so the Top Dead Center (TDC) mark (A) lines up with the pointer (B).

  5. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  6.  
  7. Remove and discard the oil pump chain tensioner.

  9. To hold the rear balancer shaft, insert a 6mm pin driver (A) into the maintenance hole in the lower balancer shaft holder and through the rear balancer shaft.

  11. Loosen the oil pump sprocket mounting bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pump sprocket, then remove the oil pump.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Make sure the No. 1 piston TDC mark (A) lines up with the pointer (B).
  2.  
  3. Align the dowel pin (A) on the rear balancer shaft with the mark (B) on the oil pump.

  5. To hold the rear balancer shaft, insert a 6mm pin driver (A) into the maintenance hole in the lower balancer shaft holder and through the rear balancer shaft.

  7. Apply engine oil to the threads of the oil pump mounting bolts (A).
  8.  
  9. Loosely install the oil pump (B), then install the oil pump sprocket (C).
  10.  
  11. Remove the 6mm pin driver (D).
  12.  
  13. Tighten the oil pump mounting bolts:
    1. Bolts 10 x 1.25mm: 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Bolts 8 x 1.25mm: 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

  15. Squeeze the new oil pump chain tensioner, then install the set clip.
    NOTE
    The set clip is supplied with the oil pump chain tensioner.

  17. Install the new oil pump chain tensioner. Tighten to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Remove the set clip from the oil pump chain tensioner.
  20.  
  21. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan, removal & installation.
  22.  
  23. Run the engine and check for oil leakage.
