Overhaul

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

Special tools required:

Strut nut adapter 07AAA-SVAA100

Strut spring compressor: Branick MST-580A or Model 7200, or equivalent

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
  4.
  5. Remove the cap from the top of the strut damper.
  6.
  7. Compress the strut damper spring, then remove the self-locking nut (A) using the strut nut adapter and a ratchet or breaker bar while holding the strut damper shaft with a hex wrench (B).
    NOTE
Do not compress the spring more than necessary to remove the nut.

  8.
  9. Release the pressure from the strut spring compressor, then disassemble the strut damper.
  10.

To assemble:

  1. Check for smooth operation through a full stroke, both compression and extension of the strut. The strut damper should extend smoothly and constantly when compression is released. If it does not, the gas may be leaking and the strut damper should be replaced.
  2.
  3. Check for oil leaks, abnormal noises, or binding.
  4.
  5. Install the upper spring mounting cushion on the upper spring seat by aligning the ledge portion.
  6.
  7. Install the strut damper spring (A) on the upper spring mounting cushion (B), then align the upper end (C) of the strut damper spring with the cushion stop (D).

  8.
  9. Compress the strut damper spring.
  10.
  11. Install all the parts except the strut damper mounting washer and self-locking nut onto the strut damper unit.
  12.
  13. Align the bottom of the strut damper spring with the stepped part of the lower spring seat.
  14.
  15. Align the center of raised portion (A) on the upper spring seat and the strut damper unit.
  16.
  17. Align the strut damper bracket (B) and the strut damper mounting base (C) so that stamp (D) on it is toward the outside of the vehicle.

  18.
  19. Install a new self-locking nut (A).
  20.
  21. Hold the strut damper shaft using a hex wrench (B), and tighten the new self-locking nut using the strut nut adapter (C) and a torque wrench.
  22.
  23. Tighten the self-locking strut nut to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
