Cables



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Press the parking brake pedal with 66 lbs. (294 N) of force to fully apply the parking brake. The parking brake lever should be locked within 5-6 clicks.
  4.  
  5. Adjust the parking brake if the lever clicks are not within the specification.
    NOTE
    Minor parking brake lever adjustments (1 to 2 clicks) can be made with the adjusting nut in the equalizer.

  7. If a larger adjustment is required, follow the major adjustment procedure using the adjuster at the parking brake drum.
  8.  
  9. After installing new parking brake shoes or a new rear brake disc/drum, make sure to drive the vehicle to break-in the components.

Major Adjustment

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    NOTE
    The major adjustment should be performed after replacing parking brake shoes.

  4.  
  5. Release the parking brake pedal fully.
  6.  
  7. Back off the parking brake adjusting nut (A) on the parking brake pedal.

  9. Remove the rear wheels.
  10.  
  11. Remove the access plug (A).
  12.  
  13. Turn the adjuster (B) with a flat-tip screwdriver (C) until the shoes lock against the parking brake drum. Then back off the adjuster 8 clicks and install the access plug.
  14.  
  15. Clean the mating surface of the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel, then install the rear wheels.
  16.  
  17. Do the minor adjustment procedure, as necessary.

Minor Adjustment

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Release the parking brake pedal fully.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the parking brake adjusting nut (A) until the parking brakes drag slightly when the rear wheels are rotated.
  8.  
  9. Back off the adjusting nut in half-turn increments.
  10.  
  11. Release the parking brake pedal fully, and check that the parking brakes do not drag when the rear wheels are rotated. Readjust if necessary.
  12.  
  13. Make sure the parking brakes are fully applied when the parking brake pedal is pressed in all the way.
