CAUTION
Never open a radiator cap or cooling system when the coolant temperature is above 100°F (37°C). Always drain coolant into a sealable container. If spillage occurs, take care to clean the spill as quickly as possible.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Note the radio security code and station presets.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Drain the engine coolant.
  8.  
  9. Remove the hood support rod, then use it to prop the hood in the wide-open position.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bulkhead cover:
    1. Put on gloves to protect hands. Take care not to scratch the front bumper and the body.
    2.  
    3. Remove the clips (A, B) by carefully pulling the front grille cover (C) up, then remove the cover by releasing the front edge of the cover from the grille (D).
      NOTE
      To remove the clips, pry the inner clip up at the edge near the line (E) on its head.

  13. Disconnect the coolant reservoir hose and the upper radiator hose.
  14.  
  15. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the splash shield.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor 2 connector, and remove the harness clip.
  20.  
  21. Clean any dirt off the quick connector (A), the radiator, and the lower radiator hose.
  22.  
  23. Pull out the lock (B) by hand, then wiggle the quick connector loose, and remove it from the radiator. Do not use any tools to remove the quick connector.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) cooler hoses (C), then plug the hoses and the lines.

  27. Lower the vehicle.

  29. Disconnect the fan motor connectors (A) and the hood switch connector (B), then remove the harness clips (C).

  31. Remove the radiator upper brackets (A), then remove the front bulkhead (B).

  33. Pull up the radiator, then remove the radiator fan shroud assembly (A), the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly (B), the radiator cap (C), the ETC sensor 2 (D), and the drain plug (E).

To install:

  1. Reassemble the radiator with new O-rings (F).
  2.  
  3. Install the radiator. Make sure the lower cushions (G) are set securely.
  4.  
  5. Install the front bulkhead (B), then install the radiator upper brackets (A).
  6.  
  7. Apply body paint to the bulkhead mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Connect the fan motor connectors (A) and the hood switch connector (B), then install the harness clips (C).
  10.  
  11. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Check the quick connector (A) and the set ring (B) for cracks or damage. If the connector and/or set ring are cracked or damaged, replace the connector.
  14.  
  15. Make sure the set ring is in place inside the quick connector. If the set ring is displaced or not properly seated in the connector, replace the quick connector.
  16.  
  17. Replace the O-ring (C) in the quick connector.
  18.  
  19. Check the lock (D). If the lock is damaged or deformed, replace it. When installing the new lock to the connector, slide it straight down along the groove.
  20.  
  21. Install a new lower radiator hose on the quick connector and install the clamp.
  22.  
  23. Clean the connecting surface of the radiator (E), then apply clean engine coolant around the connecting surface.

  25. Push down the lock, then push the quick connector onto the radiator until you hear it click.

  27. Install the ATF cooler hoses.
  28.  
  29. Connect the ECT sensor 2 connector and install the harness clip.
  30.  
  31. Install the splash shield.
  32.  
  33. Lower the vehicle.
  34.  
  35. Install the coolant reservoir hose and the upper radiator hose.
  36.  
  37. Install the bulkhead cover.
  38.  
  39. Refill the radiator with engine coolant and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
