Overhaul

Specific to:

Honda CR-V 2007-2008

Special tool required:

Strut spring compressor: Branick MST-580A or Model 7200, or equivalent

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
  4.

  6.
  7. Release the pressure from the strut spring compressor, then disassemble the damper as shown in the Exploded View.
  8.

To install:

  1. Reassemble all the parts, except the upper spring mounting cushion, the bump stop, and the damper spring.
  2.
  3. Compress the damper assembly by hand, and check for smooth operation through a full stroke, both compression and extension.
    NOTE
The damper should extend smoothly and constantly when compression is released. If it does not, the gas is leaking, and the damper should be replaced.

  4.
  5. Check for oil leaks, abnormal noises, and binding.
  6.
  7. Compress the damper spring with the spring compressor.
  8.
  9. Install all the parts, except the damper mounting washer and self-locking nut, onto the damper unit.
  10.
  11. Align the bottom of the damper spring with the stepped part of the lower spring seat.
  12.
  13. Align the bottom (A) of the damper and the damper mounting base (B) as shown so that the hook or the paint mark (C) is toward the outside of the vehicle.

  15. Install the damper mounting washer (A) and a new self-locking nut (B).
  16.
  17. Hold the damper shaft using a hex wrench (C) and tighten the new self-locking nut to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
