Removal & Installation



  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
    NOTE
    The area around the electronic brake control module (EBCM) must be free from loose dirt to prevent contamination of dissembled ABS components.

    1. Thoroughly clean all of the contaminants from and around the EBCM assembly.
      NOTE
      It is not necessary to drain the coolant or disconnect the coolant lines when moving the coolant bypass valve.

  3. Disconnect the coolant bypass valve from the radiator and position out of the way.
  4.  
  5. Press the retainer in the EBCM electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Rotate the EBCM connector tab to the unlocked position.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector from the EBCM and position out of the way.
  10.  
  11. Remove and discard the 2 upper EBCM to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) screws.
  12.  
  13. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the front air deflector.
  16.  
  17. Remove and discard the 2 lower EBCM-to-BPMV screws.
  18.  
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20.  
  21. Clean the surface of the EBCM/BPMV assembly.
    NOTE
    The EBCM cannot be repaired. If faulty, the unit must be replaced.

  23. Separate the EBCM from the BPMV.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Clean the seal surface of the BPMV.
  2.  
  3. Install the EBCM to the BPMV.
  4.  
  5. Make sure that the internal pump motor connector is installed into the new EBCM prior to EBCM.
  6.  
  7. Install the 2 upper NEW EBCM to BPMV screws.
  8.  
  9. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Install the 2 lower NEW EBCM to BPMV screws.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the NEW EBCM to BPMV screws in sequence (1-4) to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the front air deflector.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Connect the EBCM electrical connector.
  20.  
  21. Rotate the EBCM connector tab to the locked position.
  22.  
  23. Connect the coolant bypass valve to the radiator.
  24.  
  25. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  26.  
  27. Perform the automated bleed procedure.
  28.  
  29. If installing a new EBCM it is necessary to program the EBCM.
  30.  
  31. Recalibrate the brake pedal position sensor as follows:
    1. Install a scan tool.
    2.  
    3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
    4.  
    5. Select Chassis.
    6.  
    7. Select DRP/ABS/TCS/VSES.
    8.  
    9. Select Special Functions.
    10.  
    11. Select the BPP Sensor Calibration and follow the directions displayed on the screen.
