Control Module ROM Malfunction

Possible Causes:



The PCM must be replaced to correct this problem. A new PCM must be programmed with the correct software/calibration.
 
TSB 67-65-23 contains a repair procedure for this code

Control Module Not Programmed

Possible Causes:



Reprogram the PCM with the correct software and calibration. If this step does not correct the problem, the PCM must be replaced and programmed with the correct software/calibration.

Control Module Long Term Memory Reset

Possible Causes:



An interruption to the PCM main power and/or ground circuits
 
Check the PCM power and ground circuits and make repairs as necessary. Clear the codes and recheck. If it resets, the PCM must be replaced and programmed with the correct software.

Control Module Random Access Memory Failure

Possible Causes:



The PCM must be replaced to correct this problem. A new PCM must be programmed with the correct software/calibration.

Throttle body assembly is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM is damaged

Possible Causes:



MIL control circuit is shorted to ground
 
Check the TCM for any trouble codes in memory that are responsible for the request to turn on the MIL

Possible Causes:



ATF fluid level too low or the fluid is contaminated or burnt

TFT sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground

TFT sensor connector is damaged or open (intermittent fault)

A/T Input Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction (5L40-E)

Possible Causes:



ISS positive (+) or negative (-) circuit is open, shorted to ground or to power
 
ISS is damaged - check for ISS rotor damage, excessive air gap between the reverse clutch input housing assembly (401) rotor and the ISS or Incorrect alignment between the ISS and the reverse clutch input housing assembly (401) rotor.
 
TCM has failed

A/T Input Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit Low Input (5L40-E)

Possible Causes:



ISS positive (+) circuit is shorted to ground
 
ISS negative (-) circuit is shorted to ground
 
ISS is damaged - check for ISS rotor damage, excessive air gap between the reverse clutch input housing assembly (401) rotor and the ISS or Incorrect alignment between the ISS and the reverse clutch input housing assembly (401) rotor.
 
TCM has failed

TCC brake switch circuit is open or shorted to ground

OSS positive (+) circuit is open or shorted to ground

OSS unit is damaged or it has failed
 
PCM has failed

2-3 shift solenoid valve mechanically stuck off or leaking
 
2-3 shift control valve stuck or 2-3 shift valve stuck
 
2nd clutch backing plate retainer ring out of position/damaged
 
2nd clutch plate assembly slipping, dragging or damaged
 
2nd clutch apply plate seized or damaged
 
2nd clutch piston cracked or worn, 2nd clutch spring damaged
 
Control valve accumulator assembly is damaged or has failed
 
Visually inspect the transmission cooling lines for signs of leaks

A/T control valve body and accumulator for 2nd clutch leaking

Second clutch plate assembly slipping, dragging or damaged
 
Second clutch apply plate seized or damaged
 
Transmission case center support fluid passage sleeve leaking

Possible Causes:



ATF level is too low, or the fluid is burnt or contaminated
 
Inspect the forward clutch input housing assembly for the input shaft fluid seal ring leaking or worn
 
Inspect the rear control valve body assembly for the control valve body ball check valve #2 stuck or missing
 
TCC control valve stuck in the off position
 
TCC enable valve stuck in the off position
 
TCC PWM solenoid valve mechanically stuck off or leaking
 
TCC regulator apply valve stuck
 

Trouble Code: P0742



TCC System Mechanical Stuck Off (5L40-E)

Possible Causes:



ATF level is too low, or the fluid is burnt or contaminated
 
Rapid fluctuation in the fluid line pressure may set this code
 
TCC PWM solenoid valve may be stuck "on" due to sediment
 
TCC regulator apply valve may be stuck due to sediment
