Removal & Installation



5.7L Engine
  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant below the level of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the harness connector from the ECT sensor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the ECT sensor.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Coat the ECT sensor threads with sealer.
  2.  
  3. Install the ECT sensor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Refill the engine coolant.
  8.  


CAUTION
Before beginning this procedure, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section. Only a MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.

  1. Recover the refrigerant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radiator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the condenser.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the A/C drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Loosen the upper A/C compressor mounting bolts.
  14.  
  15. Raise and support the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front air deflector.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
  20.  
  21. Remove the screw for the electrical connector mounting bracket. Necessary for clearance during the compressor removal.
  22.  
  23. Remove the suction line bolt at the compressor.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the suction line from the compressor.
  26.  
  27. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
  28.  
  29. Remove the discharge line bolt at the compressor.
  30.  
  31. Disconnect the discharge line from the compressor.
  32.  
  33. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
  34.  
  35. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
  36.  
  37. Remove the A/C hose support bracket to oil pan bolt.
  38.  
  39. Lower the vehicle.
  40.  
  41. Rotate the compressor. Remove the compressor from the vehicle.
  42.  

To install:

  1. Remove the screw for the electrical connector mounting bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper A/C compressor mounting bolts to the compressor.
  4.  
  5. Install the A/C compressor.
  6.  
  7. Install the upper compressor mounting bolts finger tight.
  8.  
  9. Raise the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Install the lower A/C compressor mounting bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the electrical connector mounting bracket to the compressor.
  14.  
  15. Install the screw for the electrical connector mounting bracket.
  16.  
  17. Install the new O-ring seals to the line fittings.
  18.  
  19. Install the suction line to the compressor.
  20.  
  21. Install the suction line bolt to the compressor and tighten to 87 inch lbs. ( 9.8 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install the new O-ring seals to the line fittings.
  24.  
  25. Install the discharge line to the compressor.
  26.  
  27. Install the discharge line bolt to the compressor and tighten to 87 inch lbs. ( 9.8 Nm).
  28.  
  29. Connect the electrical connector.
  30.  
  31. Install the A/C hose support bracket to oil pan bolt and tighten to 87 inch lbs. ( 9.8 Nm).
  32.  
  33. Install the front air deflector.
  34.  
  35. Lower the vehicle.
  36.  
  37. Tighten the upper front compressor mounting bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  38.  
  39. Install the A/C drive belt.
  40.  
  41. Install the engine drive belt.
  42.  
  43. Install the condenser.
  44.  
  45. Install the radiator.
  46.  
  47. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  48.  
  49. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system.
  50.  
  51. Leak test the fitting of the repaired or reinstalled components.
  52.
