Intermediate Shaft

Removal & Installation



3.4L (VIN X) Engine

NOTE
The engine must be removed from the vehicle to service the intermediate shaft.

  1. Remove the engine from the vehicle using the procedures found in this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right side (rear) cylinder head and oil pump drive assembly using the procedures found in this section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the timing chain assembly using the procedures found in this section.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the thrust plate screws, then remove the plate.
  8.  
  9. Remove the intermediate shaft, using care not to damage the journals or bearings.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Clean all parts well. Lubricate the intermediate shaft journals and gear with engine oil or engine assembly lube. Install the intermediate shaft, thrust plate and retainer screws. Tighten the screws to 80 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

  3. Replace the O-ring after the sprocket is installed, then install the timing chain and gear assembly using the procedures found in this section.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pump drive assembly and cylinder head using the procedures found in this section.
  6.  
  7. Install the engine assembly using the procedures found in this section.
