Print

NOTE
The front wheels of the vehicle must be maintained in the straight ahead position and the steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft. Failure to follow these procedures will cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result in damage to the SIR coil assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  4.
  5. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the LOCK position and remove the key.
  6.
  7. Lock the steering column through the access hole in the lower steering column trim cover using Steering Column Lock Tool J 42640.

  17. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Engine wiring harness retaining clips

    Transmission flange bolts

Transmission from the vehicle. Swing the rear of the transmission to the RIGHT to gain additional clearance between the clutch pressure plate and the transmission input shaft.

  18.

To install:

  1. Install the transmission to the vehicle and tighten all flange bolts to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm) except for the lower bolt on the left side, which is tightened to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
  2.
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Engine wiring harness retaining clips

Rear subframe bolts. Tighten all subframe bolts to 141 ft. lbs. (191 Nm).

Steering gear intermediate shaft. Tighten the pinch bolt to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).

    Reaction arm

    Exhaust system

Heated Oxygen (HO 2 S) sensor connectors

    Negative battery cable

  4.
  5. Remove Steering Column Lock Tool J 42640 from the steering column.
  6.
  7. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system.
  8.
  9. Check the transmission fluid level.
  10.
  11. Road test the vehicle for proper operation.
