Wheel Bearings

The wheel bearings in the rear wheel hubs are integrated into one unit. The hub is non-serviceable. If the bearing is considered worn our or if the hub is damaged, the complete unit must be replaced.

Adjustment



The wheel bearings are not adjustable.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Halfshaft nut
     
    ABS wheel sensor
     
    Parking brake cable bracket from the knuckle
     

  4.  
  5. Install Special Tool J-45859 Axle Remover to the wheel bearing.

  7. Disengage the halfshaft from the wheel bearing using Special Tool J-45859.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel bearing mounting bolts
     
    Wheel bearing and backing plate from the knuckle
     
    Special Tool J-45859 from the wheel bearing
     

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Wheel bearing and backing plate to the knuckle. Tighten to 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm).
     
    Parking brake cable bracket. Tighten the bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
     
    ABS wheel sensor
     
    Halfshaft nut. Tighten to 118 ft. lbs. (160 Nm).
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Rear wheel
     

  2.  

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear caliper and bracket. Please see Section 9.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the ABS harness and detach the electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the four rear hub-to-knuckle bolts.
  10.  
  11. Separate the hub from the knuckle.
  12.

To install:

  1. Install the rear hub and bearing assembly to the knuckle and install the retaining holts. Torque to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the ABS harness and attach the electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the caliper bracket and the caliper. Please see Section 9.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.
