Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
Always connect or disconnect the wiring harness connector from the EBCM/EBTCM with the ignition switch in the OFF position. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to the EBCM/EBTCM.

  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  4.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.
  7. Remove the left front tire and wheel.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) electrical connector.
  10.
  11. Remove the EBCM mounting bolt.
  12.
  13. Remove the EBCM.

  14.

To install:

  1. Clean the sealing surface of the brake pressure modulator valve with denatured alcohol and a clean shop cloth.
  2.
  3. Install the EBCM.
  4.
  5. Install the EBCM mounting bolt. Tighten the bolts to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  6.
  7. Install the electrical connector.
  8.
  9. Install the left front tire and wheel.
  10.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.
  13. If installing a new EBCM, program the EBCM. For step-by-step programming instructions, please refer to the Techline Information System (TIS) terminal.
  14.

Brake pedal position sensor calibration must be preformed after the brake pedal position sensor or Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) have been serviced. The calibration procedure will set the brake pedal position sensor home value. This value is used by the EBCM to determine the action of the driver applying the brake system and to provide this information to the vehicle subsystems via the class 2 communication bus.

NOTE
Do not apply the brake pedal during the brake pedal position sensor calibration procedure. Any movement of the brake pedal during this procedure will cause the calibration procedure to fail. If this occurs, the brake pedal position sensor calibration must be repeated.

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2.
  3. Place the transmission in the PARK position for automatic transmission or NEUTRAL for manual transmission.
  4.
  5. Install a scan tool.
  6.
  7. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  8.
  9. Select Chassis.
  10.
  11. Select DRP/ABS/TCS/VSES.
  12.
  13. Select Special Functions.
  14.
  15. Select the BPP Sensor Calibration and follow the directions displayed on the screen.
  16.

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    NOTE
To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.

  2.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition.
  4.
  5. Thoroughly clean all of the contaminants from and around the EBCM assembly.
  6.
  7. Press the retainer in the EBCM electrical connector (1).
  8.
  9. Rotate the EBCM connector tab to the unlocked position.
  10.
  11. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector from the EBCM (3) and position out of the way.
  12.
  13. Remove the 2 upper EBCM to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) screws.
  14.
  15. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
  16.
  17. Remove the front air deflector.
  18.
  19. Remove the 2 lower EBCM to BPMV screws.
  20.
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22.
  23. Clean the surface of the EBCM/BPMV assembly.
  24.
  25. Separate the EBCM (1) from the BPMV (2).
