Removal & Installation

2.8L & 3.6L Engines



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the surge tank hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan shroud to radiator bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fan shroud to air plenum bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove remaining fan shroud to radiator bolts.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the upper radiator hose at the radiator.
  16.  
  17. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the screw from the A/C line retaining clip.
  20.  
  21. Rotate the retaining clip.
  22.  
  23. Remove the electric fan harness clip.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the fan motor electrical connectors.
  26.  
  27. Separate the wiring harness from the fan shroud.
  28.  
  29. Remove the right fan shroud bolt.
  30.  
  31. Remove the left fan shroud bolt.
  32.  
  33. Carefully remove the electric cooling fan assembly from the vehicle, to protect the radiator core.
  34.  
  35. Pull upward on the fan assembly, removing the assembly from the vehicle.
  36.  

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan assembly to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Ensure that the electric cooling fan is in the lower attaching points.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper fan shroud to radiator mounting bolts.
  6.  
  7. Install the electric cooling fan shroud to plenum mounting bolt 
  8.  
  9. Connect the surge tank hose to radiator.
  10.  
  11. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors to the cooling fan motors.
  12.  
  13. Connect the fan electrical harness retainers to the fan assembly.
  14.  
  15. Attach the remaining wiring harness retaining clips to the fan shroud.
  16.  
  17. Install the A/C line retaining clip screw to the fan shroud.
  18.  
  19. Position the radiator hose with the mark facing up.
  20.  
  21. Install the hose clamp.
  22.  
  23. Fill the cooling system.
  24.  
  25. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  26.  
  27. Connect the battery negative cable.
  28.  

4.6L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Recover the refrigerant.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front compartment sight shield.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper tie bar.
  10.  
  11. Remove the hood latch support.
  12.  
  13. Remove the discharge hose nut from the condenser.
  14.  
  15. Remove the discharge hose from the condenser.

  17. Remove the suction hose nut from the condenser.
  18.  
  19. Remove the suction hose from the condenser.
  20.  
  21. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
  22.  
  23. Remove the condenser lines to radiator mounting bolt.
  24.  
  25. Remove the engine oil cooler lines from the radiator, if equipped.
  26.  
  27. Remove the condenser mounting bolts.
  28.  
  29. Remove the condenser from the radiator retainer.
  30.  
  31. Remove the condenser from the vehicle.
  32.  
  33. Drain the cooling system.
  34.  
  35. Remove the front air deflector.
  36.  
  37. Remove the engine oil cooler pipe retaining bolts from the fan shroud, if equipped.
  38.  
  39. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp.
  40.  
  41. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  42.  
  43. Remove the transmission lines from the radiator.
  44.  
  45. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors from the cooling fan motors.
  46.  
  47. Remove the clips attaching the harness to the fan shroud.
  48.  
  49. Remove the electric cooling fan mounting bolts.
    WARNING
    Care should be taken when removing the cooling fan assembly not to damage the lower attachment points of both the cooling fan assembly and radiator.

  51. Remove the electric cooling fan assembly from the vehicle in the following order:
    1. Position the cooling fan assembly towards the left side of the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Pull upward on the right side of the fan assembly.
    4.  
    5. Position the fan assembly towards the right side of the vehicle.
    6.  
    7. Pull upward on the fan assembly removing the fan assembly from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan assembly to the vehicle in the following order:
    1. Position the cooling fan assembly behind the radiator.
    2.  
    3. Position the fan assembly towards the right side of the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Push downward on the right side of the fan assembly.
    6.  
    7. Move the fan assembly into position, aligning the lower feet of the fan shroud to the mounting tabs on the radiator.
      WARNING
      The bolts retaining the cooling fan to the radiator end tanks are a special length and should be the ONLY bolts used upon reinstallation. The use of longer bolts will damage the radiator end tanks.

  3. Install the electric cooling fan mounting bolts and tighten to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm). 
  4.  
  5. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors to the cooling fan motors.
  6.  
  7. Attach the wiring harness retaining clips to the fan shroud.
  8.  
  9. Push the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe into the radiator quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
  10.  
  11. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
  12.  
  13. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect joint.
  14.  
  15. Install the transmission oil cooler pipe retaining bolts to the fan shroud. Tighten to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm). 
  16.  
  17. Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  18.  
  19. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp.
  20.  
  21. Raise the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Install the engine oil cooler pipe retaining bolts to the fan shroud. Tighten the bolts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

  25. Install the front air deflector
  26.  
  27. Lower the vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Install the condenser into the radiator retainer.
  30.  
  31. Install the condenser mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  32.  
  33. Install the condenser line to radiator mounting bolt. Tighten the bolts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm). 
  34.  
  35. Install the engine oil cooler lines to the radiator, if equipped.
  36.  
  37. Push the engine oil cooler lines into the radiator quick connect fitting, until a click is heard.
  38.  
  39. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
  40.  
  41. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect joint.
  42.  
  43. Install new sealing washers.
  44.  
  45. Install the suction hose to the condenser.
  46.  
  47. Install the suction hose nut to the condenser. Tighten the nut to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  48.  
  49. Install the liquid line to the condenser.
  50.  
  51. Install the liquid line nut to the condenser. Tighten the nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  52.  
  53. Install the hood latch bracket.
  54.  
  55. Install the upper tie bar.
  56.  
  57. Recharge the A/C system.
  58.  
  59. Leak test the fittings using a halogen leak detector.
  60.  
  61. Install the front compartment sight shield.
  62.  

5.7L & 6.0L Engines



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the surge tank hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan shroud to radiator bolts.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the upper radiator hose at the radiator.
  12.  
  13. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the screw from the A/C line retaining clip.
  16.  
  17. Rotate the retaining clip.
  18.  
  19. Remove the electric fan harness clip.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the fan motor electrical connectors.
  22.  
  23. Separate the wiring harness from the fan shroud.
  24.  
  25. Carefully remove the electric cooling fan assembly from the vehicle, to protect the radiator core.
  26.  
  27. Pull upward on the fan assembly, removing the assembly from the vehicle.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan assembly to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Ensure that the electric cooling fan is in the lower attaching points.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper fan shroud to radiator mounting bolts.
  6.  
  7. Connect the surge tank hose to radiator.
  8.  
  9. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors to the cooling fan motors.
  10.  
  11. Connect the fan electrical harness retainers to the fan assembly.
  12.  
  13. Install the A/C line retaining clip screw to the fan shroud.
  14.  
  15. Position the radiator hose with the mark facing up.
  16.  
  17. Install the hose clamp.
  18.  
  19. Fill the cooling system.
  20.  
  21. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  22.  
  23. Connect the battery negative cable.
  24.
