Oil Pressure Sensor

Removal & Installation



2.8L & 3.6L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition OFF .
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pressure sensor.

To install:

  1. Install the oil pressure sensor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

  3. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.

4.6L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air deflector.
    WARNING
    Engine oil cooler quick connect fittings must be replaced whenever they are removed from the engine oil filter adapter.

  6.  
  7. If equipped, remove the engine oil cooler quick connect fittings from the engine oil filter adapter, with the oil pipes still attached. If not equipped with an engine oil cooler, go to step 8.
  8.  
  9. Remove the dust cover from the quick connect joint.
  10.  
  11. Remove the internal spring clips from the engine oil cooler fittings.
  12.  
  13. Remove the engine oil cooler pipes from the cooler fittings.

  15. Disconnect the electrical connector from the engine oil pressure switch.
  16.  
  17. Remove the oil filter.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 2 adapter mounting bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the adapter and discard the O-rings.

  23. Remove the engine oil pressure switch from the oil filter adapter.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Install the engine oil pressure switch to the oil filter adapter.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the engine oil pressure switch to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the new O-rings. Petrolatum may be used to retain the O-rings in the adapter.
  6.  
  7. Install the 2 bolts attaching the oil filter adapter to the engine block.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the oil filter adapter bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Lightly oil the replacement oil filter gasket with clean oil.
    NOTE
    Fill the oil filter with the engine oil.

  13. Install the oil filter.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the oil filter to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm). 
  16.  
  17. Connect the electrical connector to the engine oil pressure switch.
  18.  
  19. If equipped, install the engine oil cooler quick connect fittings to the engine oil filter adapter.
    WARNING
    Engine oil cooler quick connect fittings must be replaced whenever they are removed from the engine oil filter adapter.

  21. If not equipped with an engine oil cooler, proceed to step 16.
  22.  
  23. Tighten the engine oil cooler quick connect fittings to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Push the engine oil cooler pipes fully into the oil cooler quick connect fittings, until a "click" is heard.
  26.  
  27. Tug gently on the cooler pipes to ensure proper retention.
  28.  
  29. Slide the dust cover over the quick connect joint.
  30.  
  31. Install the air deflector.
  32.  
  33. Lower the vehicle.
  34.  
  35. Adjust the engine oil level to the full mark.
  36.  
  37. Inspect for oil leaks after engine start up.
  38.  

5.7L & 6.0L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector located at the top rear of the engine block.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pressure sensor from the engine block.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the oil pressure sensor and tighten to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the fuel injector sight shield
  6.  

Testing



  1. Run the engine briefly, 10-15 seconds, and verify low or no oil pressure on the vehicle gage or light.
  2.  
  3. Check for oil leakage at oil pressure switch, or poor connection.
  4.  
  5. Remove oil pressure switch and install oil pressure tester.
  6.  
  7. If oil pressure is within specifications suspect faulty oil pressure switch. Refer to general engine specifications section.
