Power Mirrors



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector C1 at the outside rearview mirror.
  2.  
  3. Install a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 11 and the control circuit terminal 10.
  4.  
  5. Ignition ON, commanded the mirror left and right using the mirror directional switch. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF as the mirror commanded to the left and right.
  6.  
  7. If the test lamp does not turn ON and OFF when cycling between the commanded states, test both control circuit for a short to voltage, a short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the applicable door switch.
  8.  
  9. Ignition OFF, install a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 10 and the control circuit terminal 9.
  10.  
  11. Ignition ON, commanded the mirror up and down using the mirror directional switch. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF as the mirror commanded up and down.
  12.  
  13. If the test lamp does not turn ON and OFF when cycling between the commanded states, test both control circuit for a short to voltage, a short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the applicable door switch.
  14.  
  15. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the outside rearview mirror motor.
  16.  

Removal & Installation
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    WARNING
    When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

  2.  
  3. Apply several layers of masking tape to the top of the outside rearview mirror housing in order to protect the painted finish.
  4.  
  5. Push the mirror face inward at the bottom of the face until full travel is reached.
  6.  
  7. Remove the mirror face as follows:
    1. Retain pressure on the bottom of the mirror face.
    2.  
    3. Insert a panel removal tool or the equivalent behind the glass and the first support rib.
    4.  
    5. Pry outward until the mirror face is released.

  9. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  10.  
  11. Remove mirror face.
  12.  
  13. Remove the mirror motor screws.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Remove the mirror motor.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Connect the electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Align the motor to the mirror assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the screws.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the screws 9 inch lbs. (1 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the electrical connectors.
  10.  
  11. Align the mirror face and backing plate assembly to the retaining tabs on the motor pack.
  12.  
  13. Using a 9 cm (3 in) rubber sanding block placed on the center of the mirror face, apply pressure until an audible click is heard.
  14.  
  15. Inspect the power mirror for proper operation.
  16.  
  17. Remove the masking tape.
  18.  

Switch
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Insert a flat bladed tool under the front edge of the front door switch.
  4.  
  5. Push the tool firmly towards the switch to disengage the retainer.
  6.  
  7. Lift up on the rear of the switch plate to remove it from the door trim panel.

  9. Disconnect electrical connectors.
  10.  
  11. Remove the appropriate switch from the bezel by disengaging the side snap walls with a small flat bladed tool.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Snap the switch into the bezel.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connectors.
  4.  
  5. Install the switch into the door trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Engage the rear of the switch to the door panel.
  8.  
  9. Press down on the switch plate evenly to engage the retainer.
  10.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Use a flat-trim tool to pry up on the switch assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 3 switch assembly mounting screws from armrest mount plate.
  8.  
  9. Remove the door lock and side window switch assembly. The mirror switch is part of this assembly.

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the door lock and side window switch to the arm rest mount plate.
  2.  
  3. Install the 3 switch assembly mounting screws to the armrest mount plate. Tighten to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Reconnect the electrical connectors.
  6.  
  7. Carefully push down on the switch assembly to snap in place.
  8.
