Wheel Bearings

Adjustment



The wheel bearings are not adjustable.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Brake rotor
     
    ABS wheel sensor
     
    Wheel bearing mounting bolts
     
    Wheel bearing

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Wheel bearing. Tighten the bolts to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm).
     
    ABS wheel sensor
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Front wheel
     

  2.  

(FE1) & (FE3) Suspensions
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the axle nut. Use a suitable tool to prevent the wheel hub/bearing from rotating while removing the axle nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake caliper and the caliper mounting bracket as an assembly from the suspension knuckle and support the assembly with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent. Ensure that there is no tension on the hydraulic brake flexible hose.
  10.  
  11. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the hub.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake rotor.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the wheel speed electrical connector, if equipped.
  16.  
  17. Remove the hub and bearing 4 mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the hub and bearing assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the 3 hub and bearing mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Reconnect the wheel speed electrical connector, if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Install the brake rotor to the previously marked location.
  8.  
  9. Install the brake caliper bracket assembly. Tighten the caliper bracket bolt to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm). 
  10.  
  11. Install the axle nut. Use a suitable tool to prevent the wheel hub/bearing from rotating while installing the axle nut. Tighten the axle nut to 118 ft. lbs. (160 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the front tire and wheel assembly.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.  

(FE7) Suspension
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the axle nut. Use a suitable tool to prevent the wheel hub/bearing from rotating while removing the axle nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake caliper and the caliper mounting bracket as an assembly from the suspension knuckle and support the assembly with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent. Ensure that there is no tension on the hydraulic brake flexible hose.
  10.  
  11. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the hub.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake rotor.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the wheel speed electrical connector, if equipped.
  16.  
  17. Remove the hub and bearing 4 mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the hub and bearing assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the 4 hub and bearing mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 112 ft. lbs. (152 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Reconnect the wheel speed electrical connector, if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Install the brake rotor to the previously marked location.
  8.  
  9. Install the brake caliper bracket assembly. Tighten the caliper bracket bolt to 181 ft. lbs. (246 Nm). 
  10.  
  11. Install the axle nut. Use a suitable tool to prevent the wheel hub/bearing from rotating while installing the axle nut. Tighten the axle nut to 170 ft. lbs. (230 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the front tire and wheel assembly.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
