Removal & Installation

2.8L & 3.6L Engines



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cooling fans.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 upper condenser mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Raise and support the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Remove the front air deflector.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the lower transaxle oil cooler line from the radiator.
  18.  
  19. Remove the lower condenser mounting bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the radiator side seal push pins.
  22.  
  23. Separate the side seals from the radiator.
  24.  
  25. Lower the vehicle.
  26.  
  27. Remove the radiator.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Install the radiator into the insulator in the frame.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper condenser mounting bolts and tighten to 58 inch lbs. (6.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower condenser mounting bolts and tighten to 58 inch lbs. (6.5 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Push the lower transaxle oil cooler lines into the radiator until you hear the lines engage.
  10.  
  11. Gently tug out on the oil cooler lines to verify that the lines are engaged into position.
  12.  
  13. Connect the lower radiator hose to the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Slide the clamp into the original position on the hose.
  16.  
  17. Install the side seal pushpin into the radiator.
  18.  
  19. Ensure that all seals are in place around the radiator.
  20.  
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Install the cooling fans.
  24.  
  25. Install radiator supports.
  26.  
  27. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
  28.  

4.6L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Recover the refrigerant.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front compartment sight shield.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper tie bar.
  10.  
  11. Remove the hood latch support.
  12.  
  13. Remove the discharge hose nut from the condenser.
  14.  
  15. Remove the discharge hose from the condenser.

  17. Remove the suction hose nut from the condenser.
  18.  
  19. Remove the suction hose from the condenser.
  20.  
  21. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
  22.  
  23. Remove the condenser lines to radiator mounting bolt.
  24.  
  25. Remove the engine oil cooler lines from the radiator, if equipped.
  26.  
  27. Remove the condenser mounting bolts.
  28.  
  29. Remove the condenser from the radiator retainer.
  30.  
  31. Remove the condenser from the vehicle.
  32.  
  33. Drain the cooling system.
  34.  
  35. Remove the front air deflector.
  36.  
  37. Remove the engine oil cooler pipe retaining bolts from the fan shroud, if equipped.
  38.  
  39. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp.
  40.  
  41. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  42.  
  43. Remove the transmission lines from the radiator.
  44.  
  45. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors from the cooling fan motors.
  46.  
  47. Remove the clips attaching the harness to the fan shroud.
  48.  
  49. Remove the electric cooling fan mounting bolts.
    WARNING
    Care should be taken when removing the cooling fan assembly not to damage the lower attachment points of both the cooling fan assembly and radiator.

  51. Remove the electric cooling fan assembly from the vehicle in the following order:
    1. Position the cooling fan assembly towards the left side of the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Pull upward on the right side of the fan assembly.
    4.  
    5. Position the fan assembly towards the right side of the vehicle.
    6.  
    7. Pull upward on the fan assembly removing the fan assembly from the vehicle.

  53. Lift the radiator up and out the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the radiator to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Position the condenser, aligning the lower feet to the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.
  4.  
  5. Install the condenser mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the cooling fan assembly to the vehicle in the following order:
    1. Position the cooling fan assembly behind the radiator.
    2.  
    3. Position the fan assembly towards the right side of the vehicle.
    4.  
    5. Push downward on the right side of the fan assembly.
    6.  
    7. Move the fan assembly into position, aligning the lower feet of the fan shroud to the mounting tabs on the radiator.
      WARNING
      The bolts retaining the cooling fan to the radiator end tanks are a special length and should be the ONLY bolts used upon reinstallation. The use of longer bolts will damage the radiator end tanks.

  9. Install the electric cooling fan mounting bolts and tighten to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

  11. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors to the cooling fan motors.
  12.  
  13. Attach the wiring harness retaining clips to the fan shroud.
  14.  
  15. Push the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe into the radiator quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
  16.  
  17. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
  18.  
  19. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect joint.
  20.  
  21. Install the transmission oil cooler pipe retaining bolts to the fan shroud. Tighten to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

  23. Install the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  24.  
  25. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp.
  26.  
  27. Raise the vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Install the engine oil cooler pipe retaining bolts to the fan shroud. Tighten the bolts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).

  31. Install the front air deflector
  32.  
  33. Lower the vehicle.
  34.  
  35. Install the condenser into the radiator retainer.
  36.  
  37. Install the condenser mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  38.  
  39. Install the condenser line to radiator mounting bolt. Tighten the bolts to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm). 
  40.  
  41. Install the engine oil cooler lines to the radiator, if equipped.
  42.  
  43. Push the engine oil cooler lines into the radiator quick connect fitting, until a click is heard.
  44.  
  45. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
  46.  
  47. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect joint.
  48.  
  49. Install new sealing washers.
  50.  
  51. Install the suction hose to the condenser.
  52.  
  53. Install the suction hose nut to the condenser. Tighten the nut to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  54.  
  55. Install the liquid line to the condenser.
  56.  
  57. Install the liquid line nut to the condenser. Tighten the nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  58.  
  59. Install the hood latch bracket.
  60.  
  61. Install the upper tie bar.
  62.  
  63. Recharge the A/C system.
  64.  
  65. Leak test the fittings using a halogen leak detector.
  66.  
  67. Install the front compartment sight shield.
  68.  
  69. Inspect the engine oil level.
  70.  

5.7L & 6.0L Engines



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Remove the radiator support brackets.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cooling fans.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 upper condenser mounting bolts.

  13. Disconnect the upper radiator hose clamp and remove hose from radiator.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose clamp.
  16.  
  17. Remove the surge tank hose from the radiator.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator.
  20.  
  21. Remove the lower condenser mounting bolts.

  23. Remove the push pins from the radiator side seal.
  24.  
  25. Separate the side seals from the radiator.
  26.  
  27. Lower the vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Remove the radiator.

To install:

  1. Install the radiator into the insulator in the frame.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper condenser mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 58 inch lbs. (6.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Raise the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower condenser mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 58 inch lbs. (6.5 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the lower radiator hose to the radiator and install clamp.
  10.  
  11. Install the side seal pushpin into the radiator.
  12.  
  13. Ensure that all seals are in place around the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Install the upper radiator hose to the radiator and install clamp.
  18.  
  19. Install the surge tank hose to the radiator and install clamp.
  20.  
  21. Install the cooling fans.
  22.  
  23. Install the radiator supports.
  24.  
  25. Fill the cooling system.
  26.  
  27. Check connection for leaks.
