Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear seat back to allow access to the upper shock absorber mounting.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Sound insulator from the shock tower
     
    Upper mounting nut, washer and grommet
     
    Lower shock mounting bolt
     
    Shock absorber
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower rubber mounting grommet and washer
     
    Shock into the tower
     
    Protective cap to the shock tower
     
    Lower shock mounting bolt. Torque the bolt 111 ft. lbs. (150 Nm).
     
    Upper shock mounting grommet, washer and nut. Torque the nut 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Rear seat back
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle and suitably support.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel and tire.
  6.  
  7. Support the lower control arm with a jack.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electronic level control air tube from the shock.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the shock electrical connector and remove the wiring from the control arm.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 bolts securing the shock to the control arm.
  14.  
  15. Pull the trunk trim back to gain access to the upper shock.
  16.  
  17. Remove the upper shock dust cover.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 2 nuts and the reinforcement from the shock.

  21. Remove the shock from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the shock on the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the shock upper mount.
  4.  
  5. Install the shock reinforcement and the two nuts. Tighten the nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the shock cover.
  8.  
  9. Position the trunk trim in the proper location.
  10.  
  11. Install the lower shock bolts. Tighten the nuts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the electronic air control air tube to the shock.
  14.  
  15. Connect the electrical connector and route the wiring on the control arm (FE3 and FE45).
  16.  
  17. Install the wheel and the tire.
  18.  
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20.  

Testing & Inspection



  1. Test drive vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Inspect each shock absorber for external fluid leakage.
  4.  
  5. Use your hands in order to lift up and push down each corner of the vehicle 3 times.
  6.  
  7. Remove your hands from the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Replace any shock that exceeds more than two bounces.
