Halfshafts

Removal & Installation



Left Rear
  1. Raise vehicle on a hoist.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tires.
  4.  
  5. Drain the fluid from the rear driveline module.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear propeller shaft.
  8.  
  9. Remove right side sway bar nut if equipped.
  10.  
  11. Remove left side sway bar nut if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Roll sway bar down and out of the way if equipped.
  14.  
  15. Remove the left side stay bracket bolts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the right side stay bracket bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the exhaust system up to the catalytic converter.
  20.  
  21. Support the rear driveline module with a transmission jack.
  22.  
  23. Remove the rear bolt at the driveline module.

  27. Lower driveline module enough to gain access to the electrical connector and bracket.
  28.  
  29. Remove the routing bracket bolt.
  30.  
  31. Unplug the electrical connector.
  32.  
  33. Lower the driveline module.
  34.  
  35. Disengage axle shaft.
  36.  
  37. Remove wheel if necessary.
  38.  
  39. Remove nut and washer from halfshaft to left rear hub.
  40.  
  41. Remove halfshaft from rear hub. If hard to remove or sticking, use a punch and hammer to tap out.
  42.  

To install:

  1. Lift driveline module with a transmission jack while installing halfshaft.
  2.  
  3. Install nut and washer halfshaft to left rear hub and tighten to 244 N·m (180 ft.lbs.).
  4.  
  5. Remove breather hose from ECC.
  6.  
  7. Connect the electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Install wire harness bracket and two mounting bolt and tighten to 10 N·m (89 in. lbs.).
  10.  
  11. Lift driveline module into place.
  12.  
  13. Install the two driveline module side mounting bolts and tighten to 102 N·m (75 ft. lbs.).
  14.  
  15. Install the rear driveline module mounting bolt and tighten to 102 N·m (75 ft. lbs.).
  16.  
  17. Install the right side stay bracket and bolts tighten to 61 N·m (45 ft. lbs.)
  18.  
  19. Install the left side stay bracket and bolts and tighten to 61 N·m (45 ft. lbs.).
  20.  
  21. Install the propeller shaft.
  22.  
  23. Fill the rear axle with fluid.
  24.  
  25. Roll sway bar into place if equipped.
  26.  
  27. Install left side sway bar nut and tighten to 61 N·m (45 ft. lbs.) if equipped.
  28.  
  29. Install right side sway bar nut and tighten to 61 N·m (45 ft. lbs.) if equipped.
  30.  
  31. Install the exhaust.
  32.  
  33. Install the wheels.
  34.  

Right Rear
  1. Raise vehicle on a hoist.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tires.
  4.  
  5. Drain the fluid from the rear driveline module.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear propeller shaft.
  8.  
  9. Remove right side sway bar nut if equipped.
  10.  
  11. Remove left side sway bar nut if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Roll sway bar down and out of the way if equipped.
  14.  
  15. Remove the left side stay bracket bolts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the right side stay bracket bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the exhaust system up to the catalytic converter.
  20.  
  21. Support the rear driveline module with a transmission jack.
  22.  
  23. Remove the rear bolt at the driveline module.

  27. Lower driveline module enough gain to access to the electrical connector and bracket.
  28.  
  29. Remove the routing bracket bolt.
  30.  
  31. Remove breather hose from ECC.
  32.  
  33. Unplug the electrical connector.
  34.  
  35. Lower the driveline module.
  36.  
  37. Disengage axle shaft.
  38.  
  39. Remove wheel if necessary.
  40.  
  41. Remove nut and washer halfshaft from left rear hub.
  42.  
  43. Remove halfshaft from rear hub. If hard to remove, or sticking, use a punch and hammer to tap out.
  44.  

To install:

  1. Lift driveline module with a transmission jack while installing halfshaft.
  2.  
  3. Install halfshaft washer and nut on left rear hub and tighten to 244 N·m (180 ft.lbs.).
  4.  
  5. Connect the electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Connect breather hose to ECC.
  8.  
  9. Install wire harness bracket and two mounting bolt and tighten to 10 N·m (89 in. lbs.).
  10.  
  11. Lift driveline module into place.
  12.  
  13. Install the two driveline module side mounting bolts and tighten to 102 N·m (75 ft.lbs.).
  14.  
  15. Install the one rear driveline module mounting bolt and tighten to 102 N·m (75 ft. lbs.).
  16.  
  17. Install the right side stay bracket and bolts and tighten to 61 N·m (45 ft. lbs.).
  18.  
  19. Install the left side stay bracket bolts and tighten to 61 N·m (45 ft. lbs.).
  20.  
  21. Install the propeller shaft.
  22.  
  23. Fill the rear axle with fluid.
  24.  
  25. Roll sway bar into place if equipped.
  26.  
  27. Install left side sway bar nut and tighten to 61 N·m (45 ft. lbs.) if equipped.
  28.  
  29. Install right side sway bar nut and tighten to 61 N·m (45 ft. lbs.) if equipped.
  30.  
  31. Install the exhaust.
  32.  
  33. Install the wheels.
  34.
