Removal & Installation



Toe Link
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bolt that secures the toe link to the trailing arm.

    Fig. Remove the bolt (2) that secures the toe link (3) to the trailing arm. Mark the position of the cam bolt (1) on the crossmember.

  5. Matchmark the position of the cam bolt on the crossmember.
  6.  
  7. While holding the cam bolt head stationary, remove the toe link mounting cam bolt nut and washer. Remove the cam bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the toe link.
  10.  

To install:


NOTE
When installing the cam bolt (3) and washer make sure the cams stay inside the abutments built into the crossmember

  1. Install the toe link into position. Install the cam bolt from the front through crossmember and link. Match the cam to the marks made during the removal process. Only hand-tighten the nut at this time.
  2.  
  3. Install the bolt that secures the toe link to the trailing arm. It may be necessary to flex the trailing arm body mount bushing inward or outward using a suitable pry tool. Do not tighten the bolt at this time.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the toe link mounting bolt at the trailing arm to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Check and adjust the alignment as necessary.
  10.  
  11. Once the rear toe is set, hold the cam bolt head stationary and tighten the toe link cam mounting bolt nut to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  12.  

Trailing Arm
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screws that secures the brake hose to the trailing arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nut that secures the brake line routing bracket to the trailing arm. Remove the brake line from the routing bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake caliper and adapter as an assembly. Secure the caliper assembly out of the way.
    WARNING
    Do not let the caliper assembly hang by the brake hose.

  10.  
  11. If equipped, remove the wheel speed sensor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake rotor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the hub and bearing assembly. For additional information, refer to the following section, "Wheel Bearings, Removal & Installation.-
  16.  
  17. Remove the parking brake cable from the lever of the parking brake shoe.
  18.  
  19. Remove the hair pin securing the parking brake cable to the brake support plate.

  21. Slide the brake support plate with parking brake shoes off the end of the parking brake cable and remove.

  23. Pull the parking brake cable from the trailing arm.
  24.  
  25. Remove the bolt securing the lower control arm to the trailing arm.
  26.  
  27. Remove the bolt securing the upper control arm to the trailing arm.

  29. Remove the bolts holding the leading end of the trailing arm to the body and remove the trailing arm.

To install:

  1. Position the trailing arm and install the two bolts holding the leading end of the trailing arm to the body. Tighten to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the upper control arm to the trailing arm and tighten the bolt to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the lower control arm to the trailing arm and tighten the bolt to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the bolt securing the toe link to the trailing arm. It may be necessary to flex the trailing arm body mount bushing inward or outward using a suitable pry tool. Tighten the mounting bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Insert the parking brake cable through the trailing link from the inboard side.
  10.  
  11. Slide the parking brake cable into the brake support plate with parking brake shoes.
  12.  
  13. Install the hair pin securing the parking brake cable to the brake support plate.
  14.  
  15. Attach the parking brake cable onto the lever on the parking brake shoe.
  16.  
  17. Install the wheel speed sensor, if equipped.
  18.  
  19. Install the hub and bearing.
  20.  
  21. Install the brake rotor.
  22.  
  23. Install the caliper assembly and tighten the mounting bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (71 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Position the brake line on the trailing arm, inserting the routing clip and routing bracket over the welded stud. Tighten the nut on the welded stud to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Position the brake hose on the trailing arm bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  28.  
  29. Install the rear wheel.
  30.  
  31. Lower the vehicle.
  32.  
  33. Check and adjust the alignment as necessary.
