Driven Disc & Pressure Plate

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Transmission assembly
     
    Flywheel housing cover
     
    Flywheel housing
     

  4.  
  5. Install a clutch disc alignment tool through the center of the disc and into the pilot bearing to prevent the disc from falling when the pressure plate is removed.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Pressure plate retaining bolts
     
    Pressure plate with clutch disc

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Clutch plate to the flywheel
     
    Pressure plate and cover. Do not torque the bolts at this time.
     

  2.  
  3. Align the clutch plate with the pilot bearing and clutch pressure plate.
  4.  
  5. On 3.8L models, torque the clutch pressure plate and cover bolts in a star pattern to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm), plus an additional 45 degree turn.
  6.  
  7. On 5.7L models, torque the bolts using a star pattern torque sequence to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install or connect the following:

    Flywheel housing
     
    Flywheel housing cover
     
    Transmission
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  10.  

3.8L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission
     
    Clutch pressure plate bolts
     
    Clutch pressure plate and driven disc from the dowel pins on the flywheel.

To install:


NOTE
When the clutch driven plate requires replacement, the engine flywheel must also be replaced along with the clutch pressure plate as an assembly.

  1. Install the clutch pressure plate and driven plate to the dowel pins on the flywheel.
  2.  
  3. Match the gray paint spot on the pressure plate to the X on the flywheel.
  4.  
  5. Install the clutch pressure plate bolts finger tight.
  6.  
  7. Install the clutch driven plate to the clutch pilot bearing using a suitable alignment tool.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the clutch pressure plate bolts as follows:

    Tighten the clutch pressure plate bolts 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
     
    Tighten an additional 45°
     

  10.  
  11. Install the manual transmission.
  12.  
  13. Reconnect negative battery cable.
  14.  

5.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission
     
    Clutch pressure plate bolts
     
    Clutch pressure plate and driven disc from the dowel pins on the flywheel.

To install:


NOTE
When the clutch driven plate requires replacement, the engine flywheel must also be replaced along with the clutch pressure plate as an assembly.

  1. Install the clutch pressure plate and driven plate to the dowel pins on the flywheel.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the clutch pressure plate bolts to 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm)
  4.  
  5. Install the manual transmission.
  6.  
  7. Reconnect negative battery cable.
  8.
